MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOAIm OF TRUSTEES, OHULA VISTA,
HELD OCTOBER 13,1925.
The Board met pursuant to adjournment in the Council Chmaber of the City Hall,
on the above date, with President Peters in the ohair. Meeting called to order at 7,30
p.m. Present. Trustees Peters, Shaw, ~ons, Wentworth, Bent.

PURCHASE OF TRACTOR. This being the ti"'e advertised when bids would be received and
opened for the purchase of a Caterpillar 'ractor, about 5-ton, all bids received up to this
hour were opened and declared. Only one bid was received, that of the Shepherd-Crook, Inc.,
and was as follows 1 For one Caterpillar Tractor, Holt. model 5-ton, complete, f.o.b.,
Chula Vista, $3975.00; for one Caterpillar Tractor, model "Best 30", complete, f.o.b.,
Chula Vista, 13500.00. The bid was accompanied by a certified check for $412.50. After
discussion, and upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Shaw, it was decided to ac-
cept the bid for the Holt, model 5-ton, with smooth tract. The motion carried by the fol-
lowing vote, to""Rit. AYES. Trustees Wentworth, Bent, Peters, Shaw, Lyons. NOES. None.
ABSENT. None. Mr. ,,'. E. Nadeau, sgent for the Shepherd-Crook Company, advised the Board
that Herb. Bryant, of this city, is the authorized service agent for the Holt and Best
tractors.
REPAIRS FJlR HOLT TRACTOR. MODEL T-29. 'rhe follov:ing repa.ir parts for the Holt Tractor,
now owned and operated by the street department, were ordered from the agent of the
Shepherd-Crook Oompa~, to be delivered with the new tractor purchased in the last item
above. One Gear Puller for pulling sprooket, and ond Draw Bar Clevis.
COMMENDATION FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT. The fire chief read a letter of commendation, signed
by numerous citizens of Palm City, on the prompt and efficient action of the looal fire
department, in attending a fire at Palm City recently.
FIRE HYDRANTS. Upon recommendation of the fire committee, new fire hydrants were
ordered installed, one each, at the corner 0 f Flower Street and National Avenue; and at
the corner of National Avenue and D Street, upon motion by Mr, ~ons, "seconded by Mr.
Shaw, ,,:Uoh carried by the following vote, to-wit. AYES. Trustees ~ons, Wentworth, Bent,
Peters, Shaw. NOEs. None. Absent. None.
VOLUNTEER FI~~. COMPENSATION INSURANCE FOR. The fire chief recommended that
the city obtain the maximum compensation insurance for the volunteer firemen, which will
cost $10.00 per year per man, but will pay a compensation for injury in line of duty, of
$20.83 per week, and in case of death, will pay $5000.00. After discussion, it was de-
cided to obtain the above insurance, upon motion by Mr. ~ons, seconded by Mr. Wentworth,
which carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES. Trustees ~ons, Wentworth, Bent,
Peters, Shaw. NOES. None. ABSENT. None.
FOURTH AVENUE. NORTH OF D STREET. The quest ion of the width of 4th Avenue, north
of D Street was brought up, and the city engineer was instructed to endeavor to obtain
deeds from the property owners for the land required to make this street full widt&.
TREBS. REMOVING FROM STREETS. REPLACING OF. It was decided, after discussion, that
in future when the removal of trees from the streets are authorized, that the property
owner effected, will be required to replace the trees removed, to grade, to be furnished
by the ci ty engineer.

ADVERTISING. THE representative of the San Diego Union again appeared, in connec-
tion with the city taking advertising-pace in the Annual Edition Of the Unicn. He stated
that he had taken up the matter of adverse~iam of the police department whioh has
appeared in the Automotive section of" the , and that he could anure the Board that
no more items of this nature will appear, that the entire polioy of the Union toward this
oity, is friendly, and it desires to oo-operate with the city in any polioy of advancement.
Upon motion by Mr. Bent, seconded by Mr. Shaw, it was decided to take one-half page of
advertisement,to cost $228.00, pr04f of the half page to be submitted before publishing.
the motion carried by the following vote, to-wit. AYES. Trustees Bent, Peters, Shaw,
~ons, Wentworth. The President of the Board was authorized to sign the contract for the
above, upon motion by Mr. Bent, seconded by Mr. Shaw, which carried. In this connection,
it was decided, without motion, that the Planning Commission be asked to give the writer
of the advertising matter, such pointers and assistance in describing the future develop-
ments now planned for the city. "
A letter from the Ohula Vista Star, requesting that the city contribute 1100.00
to support the Annual Edition that that paper is getting out, was read. Inasmuch as the
proposition did not state what the contribution was to cover, whether for a column,
inch, or page of the special edition, upon motion by Mr. Lyons, seconded by Mr. Shaw,
the clerk was directed to notify the Star that the city cannot make the contribution asked.
