MI1'UTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA,
HELD APRIL 6, 1926.
The Board met in regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, on the
above date, with President Peters in the ohair, Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Present: Trustee Peters, Bent, Shaw, Lyons, Wentworth.
READING OF MI1'UTES: The minutes of the last regular meeting of tmroh 2nd, and
adjourned regual meetings of 1mroh 16 and 22, 1~26, were read, and approved as read,

SIDEWALKS: a petition, signed by the owners of 376 feet frontage, asking for
the installation of sidewalks and curbing, on the east side of Del tmr Avenue, from
F street to Davidson Street, was read, and held over until the matter of ordering
in sidewalks on Alvarado Street is settled.
Dr. F, E. Ashoroft and G. R. Holloway asked what action is being taken on the
sidewalk question on Alvarado Street. They were informed that the whole work is held
pending the receipt Of a deed for one foot strip of land on that street, and that the
work of obtaining that deed is in the hands of Mr. H. S. Hall, who reports that he now
has practically all of the signatures to the deed.
A petition signed by the owners of 612 feet frontage, asking that sidewalks
and curbing be ordered in on Church Avenue, both sides, from E Street to Davidson
Street, was read. Held over awaiting action on Alvarado Street,

TRAFFIC OFFICER: Sam Jaokson, who from his statement made to the Board, has
been arrested for law violation, and tried, found guilty and sentenced in the local
Reoorder's court, appeared before the Board and filed complaint that he had been mis-
treated by Traffio Officer Smith. He demanded that Smith be immediately discharged,
but was informed that before any action would be taken, Officer Smith and, also, the
City Reoorder, would be heard by the Board. Jaokson stated that it would be an easy
matter to obtain written statements from others who had been arrested as law violaters,
and the Board agreed with him. Held over for future action.
PERIODICAL REPORTS: The monthly reports of the Community Nurse and City Re-
corder, for the month of Maro~, 1926, and the quarterly reports of the tmrshal, "'reas-
urer and city clerk, for the quarter ending Maroh 31,1926, were read, and ordered
filed.
PLANNING COMMISSION MI1'UTES: The Minutes of the Planning Commission of its
meetings of February 22nd, tmroh 8th and 15th, 1926, were read, and action taken thereon
in accordance with notations made on the margins thereof.
FIRE HYDRANT: A petition, signed by 16 property owners in close proximity
to the corner of Church Avenue and Devidson Street, asking for the installation of a
fire hydrant at that corner, was read, and upon motion by Mr. Wentworth, seconded by
Mr. Shaw, was referred to the Fire Committee, with power to act, Motion carried.
JAIL TOILETS: An.estimate by Hughes & Johnson, to install regular jail
toilets in the cells of the city jail, such installation to oos~ $87.00, was read.
The estimate was rejected, and the city clerk ordered to have metal tops placed on
the present closet tanks, and fastened thereto, by drilling through the concrete
walls of the cells, upon motion by Mr. Lyons, seconded by t~. Shaw, which carried.

DRAIN PIPE ON STREET: Clerk reported that 1~s. Ida R. Collar had filed a
verbal complaint against the drain pipe across Del Mar Avenue, into Center Street, to
the effect that the said drain pipe is too high. Referred to the Street Committee
for action.
AUDITING RECORDS OF CITY~ TREASURER: The olerkwas directed to
engage Percy S. Waters to again aud n records and books of the city clerk and city
treasurer, for the year ending Maroh 31,1926, upon motion by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr.
Wentworth, which carried by the following vote, toOwit: AYES: Trustees Shaw, Lyons,
Wentworth, Bent, Peters. NOES: None. ABSENT, None.
OR1'lAMEll'TAL STREET LIGHTING: A letter from the Marbeli te Corporation of
Amerioa, wi th offices in Los Angeles, offering prices for sntallation of ornamental
street lights on Third Avenue, between E and G Streets, was read. No action taken,
the board appearing to think that if such lighting is desired, petitions from property
owners whould be filed.

VEHICLE ACT VIOLATIONS: Mr. Ed. Fletoher, of San Diego, in a letter to the board,
stated that he had been arrested for speeding in the 20~ile zone on Third Avenue, and
protested that the sign was In'plätlilàight, and thought he should not have been fined
for the off<;nse commi tted. Letter ordered filed.
Vn[ED ORDINANCE: The board ordered the superintendent of streets to enforce the
"WEED ORDINANca", No. 124, this year.
SHORE LINE HIGHWAY: The Carmel-San Simeon State Highway Assooiation, in a letter,
asked the board to pass a resolution, which they enclosed, urging the Governor and State
Highway Commission to complete a gap of 38 miles, in the Shore Line Highway Route, be-
tween San Louis Obispo and Slates Hot Springs.
1~. Lyons then offered the resolution, which is City Resolution .No. 142, which
was read. Mr. Wentworth, seconded by Mr. Shaw, moved that the resolution be passed,
adopted and approved, as read, which carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES:
Trustees Wentworth, ~ Peters, Shaw, Lyons. NOES: ,Bento. ABSENT. None.

ORDINANCE NO. 139: Upon motion by ~. Zhaw, seconded by Mr. Lyons, which
carried, Ordinance No. 13~ was placed on its first reading. This is an ordinance
extending the Fire Zone 290 feet south of G Street, on Third Avenue. both sides.
ROTARY CLUB SIGNS: The Chula Vista Rotary Club, through the clerk, made a
verbal request for permission to erect Rotary Signs on the streets at the main
entrances of the city, and upon motion by Mr. Lyons, seconded by~. Shaw, the
authority was granted by the following vote, to-wit: AYES, Trustees Lyons, Bent,
Peters, Shaw. NOES: Trustee Wentworth. ABSENT: None.
BILLS PAID. Upon motion by Mr. 3ent, seconded by Mr. Shaw, the following bills,
