HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2025-008 RESOLUTION NO. 2025-008 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING THE 2024 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, APPROPRIATING FUNDS AND AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 OPERATING BUDGET THEREFOR WHEREAS, the Police Department received notice from the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant award in the amount of $63,372; and WHEREAS, the grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice for the 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant will be used for the personnel costs of one Police Community Relations Specialist; and WHEREAS, the Police Community Relations Specialist provides a vital link between the community and the Police Department; and WHEREAS, an opportunity for the public to comment on the grant was provided to seek input regarding the grant application and appropriations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that the City Manager, or designee, is authorized to enter into and execute an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, any amendments, extensions, or renewals of the agreement, and any and all documents necessary and appropriate to implement this resolution in the form as may be required or approved by the City Attorney. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that the City Manager, or designee, is authorized to take all necessary action to administer, monitor, manage, and ensure compliance with the program including certifications made in the application, and further to enter into and execute contracts with third parties to implement the program or use of the funds, as appropriate. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that it hereby accepts $63,372 from the U.S. Department of Justice and approves the transfer of $47,306 to the Federal Grant Fund from the General Fund.
