MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, HELD
AUGUST 2,1927.
the Council met in regular session, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, on
the above date, with Mayor Peters presiding. Meeting called to order at 7,00 p.m.
Present, Mayor Peters, Councilmen Scott, Lyons, Wentworth, Barnes.
READING OF MINUTES, The minutes of the last regular meeting of July 5th, and
adjourned regular meeting of July 26,1927, were read, and were approved as read.
~, After the reading of the minutes, a recess of ten minutes was decalred
by the Mayor, while some necessary papers were being prepared.
SEWER DISTRICT NO. I, As a result of the hearing of protests at the meeting of
this body held July 26,1927, in the matter of correcting some of the assessments, and
changing others, Clmn Soott offered Resolution No. 192, which is a resolution directing
the Street Superintendent to make certain changes in the assessment, as having been
found erroneous, or not equitable. The resolution was read, and upon motion by Cl.
Lyons, seconded by Cl. Wentworth, it was passed, adopted and approved, as read, by
the following vote, to-wit, AYES: Cl. Lyons, Wentworth, Barnes, Scott, Mayor Peters.
NOES: None. ABSENT: None.-
BILLS PAID: Upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Wentworth, which carried,
the following bills, after having been examined by the finance committee, were ordered

VACATIONS: J..1. -Lester, and King Perry, upon the approval of the Street Superinten-
dent, were granted vacations for a period of two weeke, effective about August 5,1927,
upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Barnes, which carried.
CITY ELECTRICIAN, A. M. Proctor, city electrician, presented his resignation ae suoh,
and upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by C. Lyons, it was accepted, effective at once.
Applications for the position were read, from Wallaoe E. Armer and T. H. Stahl.
The Mayor nominated R. J. Wharton for the position, and the nomination was confirmed
upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried bw the following vote, to-wit;
AYES: Cl. scott, Lyons, Wentworth, Barnes, Mayor Peters. NOES: None. ABSENT, None.
PERIODICAL REPORTS: The monthly report of City Judge for the month of July, 1927,
and t he quarterly report of the City Tre'4surer, for the quarter ending June 30, 1927, were
read, and ordered received and filed.
Meeting of Auguet 2, 1927, Continued.
STREET SIGNS, A petition signed by residents on National Avenue, and that vicinity,
asking that the,signe at National and E and National and J, directing that the city ie
one mile east, be removed, was read. Upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by ct. Lyons,
which carried, the peitition was referred to the Planning Commission.
STREET LIGHT, A petition, signed by the residents in the vicinity of Roosevelt
and Second Avenue, was read, in which the petitioners asked that a street light be in-
stalled at that intersection. Upon motion by Cl. Barnes, seconded by Cl. Wentworth, which
carried, the matter was referred to the street committee, with authority to act.
VACATING STREET, In the matter of vacation a portion of Country Club Drive,
heretofore brought up before this body, Cl. Wentworth offered Reeolution 1'10.193. which
is a resolution declaring that certain portion of Country Club Drive, described in the
reeolution, as closed and vacated. The resolution was read, and upon motion by Cl. Scott,
seconded by Cl. Wentworth, it was passed, adopted and approved by the following vote,
to-wit: AYES: «t. Scott, Lyons, Wentworth, 3arnes, Mayor Peters. NOES: None. ABSENT, None.
HEALTH OFIICER, City Health Officer Ashcroft, asked in a letter, that hie salary
be increased from QO.OO per month, to $75.00 per month, for the reason that his duties
were such that the increase was necessary. Upon motion by Cl. Barnes, eeconded by Cl.
LYons, the inorease was granted, effective August 2, 1927, by the following vote, toOwit,
AYES: Cl. Barnes, Lyons, Wentworth, Mayor Peters. NOES: Cl. Scott. ABSE1~: None.
CITY ENGI1~, City Engineer Capwell, in a letter, asked that he be put on
a full time basis as city.engineer, at a salary of $250.00 per month. He cited the fact
that he is using about $1200.00 worth of his own instruments, and that the work of his
office required his full time to keep abreast of the work. The request was granted, upon
motion by Cl. Barnes, seconded by Cl. Lyons, effective August 2,1927, by the following
vote, to-wit, AYES: Cl. Barnes, Lyons, Wentworth, Mayor Peters. NOES: Cl. Scott,
ABSENT, None.
CITY HALL: In the matter of the use of the city hall, by organizations, and others,
fraternal, etc., the authority to let the councll chamber, was placed in the hands of the
mayor and city clerk, without reference to the council, upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded
by Cl. Wentworth, which carried.
LUBRICANTS FOR STREET MACHINERY: A contract with the union Oil Company, for lub-
ricants for the ensuing years, was presented, and after comparison wi th last year's contract
it was accepted and the Mayor authorized to sign the same for and on behalf of: the city,
pen motion by Cl. Barnes, seconded by Cl. Wentworth, which carried by the following vote,
to-wit; AYES, Cl. Barnes, Scott, Lyons, Wentworth, Mayor Peters. NOES, None. ABSENT:
None.
ADJOURNMENT: Upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Barnes, which carried,
the Council adjourned to 4,30 p.m., August 5,1927.

certain modifications to be mae by the Superintendent of Streets, of Assessment No.5,
in the matter of constructing a sEl'Ner system and other works upon portions of G Street
and other streets in the City of Chula Vista, C81ifornia, the hearing of the appeal
from said assessment is continued until August 5, 1927, at 4,30 p.m., so that suoh
modifications maybe engrossed upon såid assessment, and this Board sátisty itself of the
correctness of said assessment, as modified. The motion carried by the following vote,
to-wit: AYES, Trustees Scott, Lyons, Wentworth, Barnes, ~or Peters. NOES None.
