Meeting called to or, er at ?:30 p.m. Present: 01. Peters, Scott, Lyons, Hawkins. Cl. Barnes Absent. CEmeNT C017~AOTORS: Applications of BenJ-m_!n Hutterfleld and R. V. Dyson, ask- lng that they be licensed as cement contractors, were read. The clerk --~ounoed that bonds, as required by law, had been deposited with him, by each of the above named, and upon motion b7 Hawkins, seconded by 01. Scott, the requests were granted; upon recom- mendation by the city attorney, the motion included the acceptance of the bonds, above merit ioned. BUA//)ING EREC~T.D CONTRARY TO ZON~: In the matter of a building having been con- structed by Walter M. Sh-~p, which is not fireproof, in a fire district, a letter was read by the clerk frc~ Mr. Sharp, stating that it was not the desire of Mr. Sharp to have the zone changed, and requesting that authority be granted for the building. Clerk instructed to see Mr. Sharp, and if satisfactc~y arrangement could not be made, to ask Mr. Sharp to attend the ~xt meeting of this 0ouncil. n~w~ FOR STREET A00EI~AT~: Mr. Austin Fuller, on behalf of Mrs. Louise H. Pray, presented a deed, properly executed, for a strip of land r,m-tng north and south thru Lot 3, ~-Seotion 138; also another strip, in same lot; one to be used and known as 0hutch Avenue, the other as an alley, and asked the Council to accept the deed. After discussion, it was agreed to accept the deed for the land, provided the street and alley are properly surfaced with granite, as required by c~dinance. Mr. Fuller agreed to have the surfacing performed, but in order that the deed may be recorded at as early a date as possible, agreed further to deposit the ~um of $175.00, as a guarante~wShat the surfacing will be completed. Thereupon cl. Scott offered Resolution No. ~-79, which is a resolution accepting the above described property. It was read, and was passed, adopted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: ~v~: Cl. Hawkins, Peters, Scott, Lyons. N~S: None. ABSENT: Cl. Barnes. I]EPOSIT OF FUNDS: In the matter of the deposit of the city funds, by the City Treasurer, in accordance with the law of 1927, the city attorney was in~tructed to take over the matter, and see that the law is complied with at once. RENDI~ING PLANT ON BAY FRONT: A letter fram Mr. 0.^Hall, of Los Angeles, to Mayor Peters, stated that such a plant, in Los Angeles, had considerable odor, which, at times, is almost unbearable. This in oounection with an application made at a fc~mer meeting of this Council fox. the establishment of such a plant, on bay front land, in this city. No action taken. INSEPU~NOE FOR VilLUI~'~.~ FI~: A letter, from Mr. Murray M. Campbell, was read in which a proposition to insure the vehicles of volunteer firemen, against personal lia- bility and property damage, while such firemen are attending fires. Held over. DEan FOR STREET AOC~P','~,~: An easement, by the S. D. & A. Ry. C~al~any, for a par- cel of land, required to open Center Street~.to Second Avenue, was presented and read. Cl. Hawkins then offered Resolution No. 278, which is a resolution accepting the land. It was read, and was Passed, adopted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Cl. Scott, Lyons, Hawkins, Peters. NO~S: None. AR~gNT: Cl. Barnes. PAVIN~ BETW~ RAILS ON TH]RD AVENUE: Clerk in~tx-uoted to write a letter of apprecia~ion to the S. D. & A. Ry Co., for its work in paving between its tracks on Third Avenue. CONTRAOT01%~' BOND~: Bonds filed by the following roofing contractors, after ap- proval of the city attorney, were accepted, upon motion by. C1. Lyons, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried: California WaterproofingOo.; T. B. Baker; Pacific ~oof Co. Meeting of April ~.3, 19~.9, Continued. ORNAMENTAL STREET LIGHTING: A petition was read, which is signed by ?4% of the property owners effected, asking fur ornamental street lights, double standards, to be installed on Third Avenue, fr~n the south line of Davidson Street, to a line 290 feet south of the south line of G Street. IFpon ~otion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Hawkins, which ea~ried, the petition was accepted. Cl. Lyons then presented Resolution No. 280, which is a resolution directing the cit~ engineer to prepare plane and specifications for the above mentioned work. It wns read, and was passed, adopted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: A~: Cl. Hawkins, Peters, Scott, Lyons, NOF~: None. ABSENT: Cl. Barnes. The plans, specifications and plat of the woe-k, showing the boundaries of the district, to be known as Ohula Vista Lighting District No. 1, were then l~esented by the city engineer. Cl. Scott offar~ed Resolution No. P~l, which is a resolution adopt- lng the plans, specifications and plat, above mentioned. It was read, and was passed, adopted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Cl. Hawkins, Peters, Scott, Lyons. NOES: None. A~: Cl. Barnes. A License Ag~ee~en%, by the Westinghouse Company, covering the installation of the lighting standards, whish are a patented article, was presented, and was accepted and ordered filed, upon motion by Cl. Lyons, seeended by Cl. H~wkins, which carried. Cl. Scott, at this tires, presented Resolution No. 28~.~which is the resolution of intention, eovaring the above specified work. It was read, and was passed, adopted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: A~S: Cl. Hawkins, Peters, Scott, Lyons. NOES: None. AESE~T: Cl. Barnes. which carried, 0RDINANOE No. 198: Upon motion by 01. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons_~ ordinance No. 19S, was placed on its second and final reading.
