HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1929/05/07MIN~DES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, HELD MAY MAY 7, 1929. The Council met in regular session, in the Council Ohsmber of the City Hall, on the above date, with Mayor Peters presiding. Present: Mayor Peters, Cl. Scott, Lyons, Barnes. Cl. Hawkins absent. Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. READING OF MINUTES: The minutes of the last regular meeting of April 2, 1929, and an adjourned regular meeting of April 25, 1929, were read, and approved, as read. BUILDING IN FIRE ZONE: Mr. Hoyt,appeared before the council and stated that he is constructing a service station on the southwest corner of ~rd Avenue and K Street, and asked that he be permitted to erect a small temporary building, to be used as living quarters, for a period of eight months, on the above location; this temporary building to be of frame construction, and to be erected on skids, so it could be moved out of the fire zone that exists at this location, at the end of the eight months. Upon motiom by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried, Mr. Hoyt was granted permission to erect the class of building requested, provided he files with the city clerk, a contract, signed by himself and the present owner of the land, to the effect that the building will be removed within the period of six months. ~0VING STREET ~w.~: J. M. Beasley, by letter, asked the Council for permission to remove several street trees on E Street, between §th and 6th avenue, for the reason that one of the trees is now standing in the location of the driveway to a house he is going to erect at that location. Upon me,ion of Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Barnes, per- mission was granted to move the one tree that ia in the proposed driveway, and the others to be taken up with the planning commission, after the property has been filled to grade of street. GASOLINE PU~P AT CL~B LINE: Helm Brol~ers, by letter, asked the Council for per- mission to erect a gasoline pmnp and tank, between ~he curb and sidewalk, on Church Ave., about 30 feet North of F Street, and alongside of the new garage building now being erected at that point. Upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried, a revokable permit for the above was granted. UNI~C~tM BU~ING CODE: A letter from the california League of Municipalitise was read, in which it was stated that all obstructions are now removed in eo~nection with the adoption of this code by all cities, and suggesting that this city adopt it. No action taken. ARM~AIR DEPOT: A letter was read from Stats Senator ;~ueller, to the effect that it is thought by Mr. Mueller that there will be no difficulty in having the law so emended that the tide lands in this city may be deeded to the U. S. Government, in case an air depot is established here. AUDITING THE FINANOIALRECORDS OF T~ 0AT~: Bids for auditing the records of the city for the past year, were opened and declared as follows: Frank E. Pope, certified accountant, not to exceed $22~.00; Haskins & Sells, certified accountants, not to exceed $200.00; Harold J. Frank, a student in accounting, $1~0.00. After discussion, and upon motion by Cl. Barnes, seconded by Cl. Scott, the work was awarded to Mr. Frank, by the following vote, to-wit: A~S: Cl. Barnes, Scott, Lyons. NOES: Cl. Peters. ABSENT: Cl. Hawkins. FIRE HYDRANT: A potion was presented, which was signed by all the property owners effected, asking for the installation of a fire hydrant at the corner of 4th Avenue and G Street. Referred to the Fire Cammittee, with power to act, upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried. The tree ordinance provides for the removal of dead street trees at the expense of the city, but other trees are removed at the expense of the property owner, an~ upon his request to do ac. This does not apply to unsightly or worthless trees, however. Inareae in the salary of ~ee Warden Elliott f~ma $~0.00 per month, to $40.00 was approved, effective frmnMay 7, 1929, upon motion by Cl.
