The Council met, pursuant to adJoux~ment, in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, on the above date, with ~a~or Patars l~eeidlng. Moating called to order at 7:30 p. m. Present: Mayor Paters, Councilmen Scott, Lyons, Hawkins, Barnes. 0RNA~NTAL ~'IREET LIGHTING: Mayor Paters asked if there ware any protest filed against the installation of streat li~ats on ~lrd Avenue, this being the tima and place set for a hearing of such protasts. W. N. D~ew presented a petition signsd by approximately ~4% of the property owners effected by this project, including some names that had signed the original patition for the project. After a discussion, conducted hy M~. Drew, Mr. Vincent Howa, and Mr. Th~nas Howa, all talking against the project, and after the Mayor had ascertained that no others ware present who desired to be heard on the subject, the petion protesting against the project was denied by Resolution No. P~, offered by Cl. Scott. The resolution was read, e~d was passed, adopted and approved, as raad, by the following vote to-wit: AYES: Cl. Hawkins, Barnes, Peters, Scott, Lyons. Ifl~ES: No~. ABSENT: None. Cl. Scott then offered Rasolution No. ~84, which is a resolution ordering the work, and directing the city clark to advertisa for bids. After being raad, the res- olution was passed, adopted and appro~d, as raad, by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: C1.Hawkins, Barnes, Peters, Scott, Lyons. NOES: None. ABS~2~T: None. ARM~ AIR D~FOT: Mr. T. C. Macaulay and T. F. Bom~ asked, verbally that the area of the tide lands that had haan agreed to donate to the Government, due to the raquest of the representative of the ~overnme~t, d~cing a recent visit hara. The raquest was g~anted by the lntrodustion c~ Rasolution No. ~65, by Cl. Lyons. It was read, and was passed, adopted and approved, as raad, by the following vota, to-wit: AYES: 01. Barnes, Patars, Scott, Lyons, Hawkins. NOES: None. ABSENT: Nons. VACATIONS: City Clerk Tinu, ons asked for one weak of hie a,nual vacation, for tho weak of May 19-O`5, 19~9, and the request was granted upon motion by ¢1. Lyons, seconded by Cl. Ha~nee, which oarriad. Chief of Polica 0lyric submitted a request fc~ vacations for the Poll. ca De- partment, fc~ this years, as follows: C. S. Patterson, from tune 13 to 17, 19~9. M. E. Kelly f~c~ Yuly 1 to 1§, 19S9; S. E. Clyne, tuly 17 to 31, 19~.9; Roy Hill, Yuly 30 to Aug. 15, 1929; L. Y. Emde, Aug. 16 to 30, 19~9. The letter was ra- fex~-ed to 01. Hawkins, with power to act, upon motion by 01. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried. LEAVE OF ~O'E: 01. Hawkins asked for a leave of absence, with permission to laave the State, for a period of thirty days, effective about Ma~ o-6, 1929, Granted, upon motion by Cl. Barnes, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which carried. LIBRARY BOARD: Mr. Warner Edmonds, having left the city, and having resigned to tho Library ~Jcard, as a member of that board, his absence from the city, and resig- nation was accepted as vacating the position, upon motion by Cl. Scott, seconded by Cl. Lyons, which c~rried. ~s~or Peters nominated Mr. P. S. Eustie as a m__~mber of the Library Board, vica Edmonds, and the nomination was confil~ned upon motion by Cl.' Scott, seconded by Cl. Barnes, which carried. CEA~J~T CONTRACTC~: The application of Y. A. Gardner as a cement contractor, which was acccnrpanied by a bond, was granted, and the bond approved, on recomrAendation of the city attorney. Motion covering by Cl. Scott, saconded by Cl.
