Co,ellen ~ons ~d Scott absent. 0RNA~.k"TAL STREET LIGHTS: This being set as the time fc~ heari~ protests on work perf~d, and on the aneeeazaent and dia~ema of St:est Lighting District No. 1, and the clerk having announced that no protests hat*~-~ been filed with hl~, C1.Hawkiu offered Resolution No. S02, which is a resolution approving, ratifying and eonfir,~ing t~e assessment and diagl, a~ of the wok. The resolution was read, and was passed, adopted and approved, aa read, by the following vote, to-wit: AI~S: Cl. Be:nee, Peters, Hawkin~. N(~S: None. ABSEI~: C&. Lyon~ and Scott. SID~W~TX~ No. 5: In the matter of sidewalk~, curbs and gutters, on the West side of National Avenue, frc~ Orange to D Streets, a petition was presented, signed by five of the nix original signers of a petition for this work, with two other signers, pro- testing against the work being dons at this time. After consi~eration and dis~/uselon, it was decided to abandon the wc~'k, and Cl. Barnes offered Resolution No. S03,~/which iea resolution cancelling ~esolution No. S01, this latter having declared it to be the intention of this 0ouncil to proceed with the work. The resolution was read, and was passed, ad~pted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: A!~S: ltawkins, Fetex. s, Barnes. NOES: None. ABSEI~: Cl. Lyons, Scott. Another petition was presented, signed by a maJori%y of the property owners effected, asking that sidewalks and curbs be laid on the Nc~th Side of D Street, fr~a National to 0ak. lawn Avenues, and the South aide of D Street, fron National to Wood- lawn Avenues. In view of the fact that the work on National Avenue, above ~entioned, is abandoned, one of the eigne~s ~f this petition suggested that this petition be turned to the siguere, to asee~tain if it is still the intention and desire that this work be put it. This action was taken by this Council, upon motion by Cl. Hawkins, seconded by Cl. Barnes, which carried. ~VING S~EET ~I~E~S: The request of R. T. Ore~e~ to remove the street trees on E Street, between National and let Avenues, and along National and First, having been refezTed to T~ee Warden ~lliott at the last meeting, ~. ~lliott repo~ted that two Cyp~ene trees on W Street should be re~oved by the city, and the Six'est Department WaS m~lared to remove thee; the other trees in question, ten in number, were authorized to be removed by ~. Oremer, he to deposit the nsual $5.00 fur each tree removed, to guarantee replanement. All this action on ~otion by Cl. Hawkins, seconded by Cl. Barnes, which sallied. BUS S~VI0]~: A letter fr~ L. F~. S~th of ~an Diego, vas read, in which ~.. S~th e~mplains that it ia hie understanding that the bus as~viee on National Avenue is to be discontinued, and that buses will run only on ~nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue. Clerk instructed to ascertain the facts and advise ~r..e~lth accordingly. The Fire Chief was instructed tm again confer with the Water Oc~pan~, and report later. SIRENS AND 1~ LI(~tTS ON A~uLANCES AND POLIOE v~iOLES: The question of the authority to warty red lights and sirens on the above mentioned vehicles, having arisen, the metier was referred to the city arc, ney, fc~ investigation and report at the next meeting.
