HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1931/01/06MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CHULA VISTA, CALIFORN HELD JANUARY 6, 1931. The Council met in regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, on the above date, with Mayor Done presiding. Meeting calla to order at ?:30 p. m. Present: Mayor Done, Councilmen Conyers, Bradl Lyons, Howe. MINUTES OF PAST MEETINGS: The minutes of the last regular meetin of December E, 1930, and of Special Meetings of December 15 and 29, 193 having been read by each member of the Council, were approved. BIDS FOR PRINTING: This being the time set for opening bids for city printing for the calendar year 1931, three bids having been receiv were opened and read, viz: Denrich Press, The Chula Vista Star and La Chula Imprenta. After discussion, upon motion by Cl. Bradley, seconded Cl. Lyons, which carried, the matter of making the award for the work w held over to another meeting. STREET TREES: A representative of the Davies Tree Surgeons verbs addressed the Council, and advised that his company had been engaged b~ San Diego Gas and Electric Company, to trim street trees in the city, s trees having been heretofore trimmed to accommodate electric wires of ~ company, putting the trees in an unsightly condition. The trees surge¢ propose to so trim these trees that they will have a symmetrical appeax ante, and this without cost to the city. The request to do the work r~ quested under the general supervision of the city tree warden was granl upon motion by Cl. Conyers, seconded by Cl. Bradley, which carried. B~XLDING NOT AUTHORIZED IN ZONE A: Mr. Walter M. Sharp addresse~ Council in the matter of an extension he is making to his warehouse on Street. He stated that the work he is doing will cost approximately and that he had taken out a permit for $500.00. Existing ordinances p, the alteration of a building, in any zone, to cost not to exceed 50~ the assessed value of the building, and the clerk advised that the ass, value ~of this warehouse is $1335.oo. The small amount over the 5~ au' ized was not considered and no actlon was taken. Mr. Sharp, in 1929, erected an office building on his property, in the fire district, and the building was not fire proof. No permit ever issued for this building, and Mr. Sharp agreed to take up this ma with the Planning Commission, as provided by ordinance, in order that permit may b'e issued. I~EED CLEANING: Mr. Charlie A. Haas, owner of Lot 1Z, ~-Section Dexter C. Mayne, owner of Lots 9 and 15, Leach's Chula Vista Grove; S. Searight, owner of Lot 14, Block A, Smailes Park, and Albert A. Hooper owner of Lot 13, Block A, Smailes Park,~all protested against a charge the city taxes for weed cleaning. Mr. Haas stated that he could get a bet of neighbors to substs~tiate his claim that the city did not clean lot, and the matter was delayed until next meeting. Upon motion by Ol Lyons, seconded by Cl. Howe, which carried, a refund of $2.28 was gran to Albert A. Hooper, but the claims for refund of Searight and Mayne w denied. TIDE LANDS: A lease which it is proposed to enter into with Yc E. Blackman for the development of part of the city's tide lands, was and various items therein discussed. Before this lease may be accomp~ an ordinance must be passed. ORDINANCE No. 209: Upon motion by Cl. Howe, seconded by Cl. BOARDS APPOINTED: Mayor Done nominated the following named pers¢ to constitute standing boards, for the current calendar year, as foll¢ Plumbers' Examining Board: W. K. Hays, R. Y. Wharton, M. T. Ski~ Dr. F. E. Ashcroft, Cl. w. T. Lyons; Electricians' Examining Board: R. Y. Wharton, H. L. Yones, Cl. W, Lyons. The nominations were confirmed upon motion by Gl. Conyers, sec; ~y Cl. Bradley, which carried. ELECTRIC STREET LIGHT IN FREDERICKAHOME: The clerk was instrucl to order the installation on an additional street light, 250-W, in the grounds of the Fredericks Home, to be charged against the city's cent: for street lights, and the clerk to collect from the Home the amount charged for the light. Collections to be made monthly. JAIL REPAIRS: A bill from B. Butterfield, covering alterations in the city Jail, amounting to $50.00, was presented by the clerk, authorization of the expenditure, this item not having been included the annual budget. Approved and authorized upon motion by Cl. Lyons, seconded by Cl. Bradley, which carried. STREET TREE, REMOVING: Mrs. Marie Teufel, by letter, asked for ~ mission to remove a large eucalyptus standing on 2nd Avenue, in front Lot 20, Pray's Orange Villa Tract. The clerk announced that Mrs. Tue~ had deposited the regulation deposit of $5.00, to guarantee the repla¢ merit of the tree removed. Mrs. Teufel agreed to replace the tree remc with two approved trees, and her request was granted upon motion by G1 Lyons, seconded by Cl. Howe, which carried. WATER MATN AND FIRE HYDRANT: Property owners on Sea Vale Streel having petitioned for a 4-inch water main, with a fire hydrant, at the last regular meeting of this council, the clerk presented a letter frc the Sweetwater Water Company, in which that company proposed to instal a 4-inch main on Sea Vale Street, from 4th Avenue, to the west line o~ Del Mar Avenue, provided that the city orders the installation of a fi hydrant. Upon motion by 01. Lyons, seconded by Cl. Howe, the clerk we instructed to accept the proposition of the water company.
