Oouncil~ Howe ahoent. ~eting held Mayur Done, ~ OF PREVI0~ ~m~TINGS: The minutes of the last regular meeting of April ?, 1931, and adjourned regular meeting of April IS, 1951, and of a special meeting of April 30, 19~1, having bean read by eanh member of the Council, were approved as prepared. C01~GNITT AiID SCHOOL 1~: Mr. Bax-ron, of the Chula Viota Union (~ra-,--~ Sahoo Board of Trusteeo, appeared before thio 0ouncil, and stated that the aehd~l needs an additional, or part time nurse. She ln'Oposad that a part time nurse be en~loyed in the school, at a salary of $100.00 per month~ the city to pay one-half of the salary. The 0ounoil agreed to later consider the matter. UN~ BUILDING O0~E: Building Inspector Pickett, of Coronado, talked at length ~a the adoption by this city of the Unif~Ama Building Code. Referred to the City Building Iuepeotor, to report at the next meeting. WA'~ RATE INCREASE: A letter f~cm the Swsetwate: Wa~er Corporation, in re- ply to a letter to that organization fram our city attorney, with reference to the laot increase in water rates fixed by the Rails-cad 0~.,-~seion, was read. M~. Ii. L. Berge~ took the floor and urged that the thio city and National City get together, and appeal to the Railroad O~*,-~ solon to have the present rateo reduced; th~ the in,ease in rates was granted upon the p~mmise of the Wator O~a~any that it would m~s certain ~i~rovements to t~e system; that the Water Oc~uy had failed to keep its prc~nise; that the letter, above mentioned, was a threat to the extent that if sotion was brought to reduse the l~esent rates, the Water C.~.....eny would ask for an- other lneraase; that this threat is only another of the Water 0c~any's bluffs. Mr. $. H. M~Oullooh was granted the floor, and he urged that in view of the fact that a hearing is now pending with the Water C~,-pany on diverting water from the reservoir to the City of Coronado, that no action be taken until this latter hearing is mettled; he agreed that the water oc~ had broken faith with us, but that we should not attest to appear befure the RaiLroad Oonm~lseion hux~le~ly, -~ that no action should be had until we a~e f~,~ly px~ared for such action, which we are not at thio time. NI~-~ ~ PASK LIGHTING: Mr. C. V. Brown appeared on behalf of the Ohula Vlota Athletic Association, and asked the sity to pe~V for the elesl~ic current used in lighting the b~Tl field fc~ night athletics. He orated that the association had erected the apparatus neneseary fox' the lighting, and ~hat the cost would run about five or six dollars per week far part of the year, or a yearly cost of between $1~0.0 and $175.00. He Was instructed to present a signed application from the Athletic Association, and to appear at the next meeting. ~ AND LU~IOANTS ~ STP. EET MACHINERY: Cl. Oonyers called attention to the fact that our present contract for these c~.-,*dities, which is perpetual, provideo a top prims of 14 cents per gallon for gasoline, whereas the Standard 0il Company offer a contract at 13 cents top price. Upon motion by Cl. Bradley, seconded by 01. Lyons, which carried, the clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for a new contract for gaooline and lubricants; bids to be opened at the next meeting of thio Council. S~REET LIGHTING D~t~ICT: The Superintendent of Public Works presented the pre- liminarypapers fo~ the forn~tion of a~lntenanoe district for lighting Lighting Dls~rict No. 1. These papers consist of: Resolution of Intention. Plat of the District. Specifications fo~ furnishing electricity. LightingMaintenaneeAmsessment. List of l'roperty owners in the district. Estt,~te of cost of ligh~ing,v Cl, 0onyers offered Resolution No. 328;which is a resolution of intention, and provides that it is the intention to form the maintenance district, eha~ging ?0% of the cost ofm aintenanee to the abutting property owners, and 30% ~o be paid by the city as a whole.
