The Council m~t in regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, On the above dater with Mayor Done presiding. Meeting called to order at ?:$0 p.m. Present: ~ayor Done, Cou~cilme~ Howe, Lyons, Bradley, Oonyers. MIi~y~S OF PREVIOUS MEETINC~B: The minutes of the last regular meeting of May I 1931, having been read by each member of the Council, smd no corrections being nec- essary, were approved. Cmmpamy, verbally proposed to erect a highway lighthouse at each entrance to the ci These signs to show on one side: "Entering Chula Vista;" the other side to show: "Leaving Ohula Vista." The signs to be erected and maintained at no expense to the city, but each will carry an advertisement of s~ kind. ?~-much as city ordinane prevent ea_~rying on the business of advertising, except when licensed to do so, pay a fee of $$0.00 per year, upon motion by 01. Howe, which carried, the matter was referred to the city attorney to look into the provisions of the city ordinance and tzhe contract to be presented by the company, and to repot later. GASOLINE AND LUBRICANTS: This being the time set f~ opening bids for pur- chasing gasoline and lubricants for a period of one year, the following bids were received, opened and declared: Union 0il C~amy of Califormia, Gasoline, top price 11~ cents per gallon; lubric~uts fr~a ~ per gallon to 60~ per gallon. Ge~oline 3¢ off of top price. General Petrolemm Corporation, top price fo~ gasoline, 1~; lubricants, to 4~¢ per gallon. The Texas Comt~any, gasoline, present price of B~; no top price; lubricants, their dealers prieeo Shell 0il Ccm~pauy, gasoline top price 1~¢; present price ~; lubricants ~0~ to 56¢. After considering an~ e~parimg the bids, the bid of the U~icn Oil CoAt. any of Oalifornia, being found the lowest ~d best, upon motion by Cl. Conyers, seoond~ by Cl. Bra&ley, which carried, that bid was accepted. The motion ~ried the auth< for the M~ror to sign ~ontracts, -~ the authority to cancel the present contract for gasoline a~d lubricants held wit~ the same coppery. WA'lq: N~. H. L. Berger asked the Council if it had any information on when the hearing on diverting water from the Sweetwater reservoir to Coronado will be h, Cl. Howe, who is chairm~n of a coz~aittee on ~ls matter, announced that the hea-~i~ is set for $~ue 15th, ~ext. VACATION: Fire Chief Smith asked for permission to grant a vacation to Engii I~orris E. Lamb from Yune 1~ to ~0, 19~1, inclusive, and for authority to employ a volunteer fir~n,n in ~mb's place during his absence, at a cost not to exceed ~E0.. ReQuest granted upon motion by Cl. Conyers, seconded by Cl. Bradley, which ce_~ried OFFICIALS' BONDS: ~e bonds of the City ~udge and Court Clerk, upon the rec~ mendation of the city attorney, were approved on motion by Cl. Lyons, seconded by howe, which carried. NIGHT AT~HLETIC GRODI.~)S: A letter was read, signed by l~ssrs. C. V. Brown, Do Dickinson and Edwin T. S~ith, a con~nittee appointed for the purpose, in which the city is asked to pay for the electric current consumed in the ill~fuated night be perk. The letter sets forth that the lights ere used about two hours per night, t nights per week, for about five months of the year, and that the electrioty costs about 60 cents per hour. Upon motion by Cl. Conyers, seconded by Gl. Lyons, seconded by Cl. Conyers, which car: Ordinance No. 216 was placed on its second aud final reading. It was read, and was passed, adopted and approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Cl. Lyo: Bradley, Conyers, Done, Howe, NOES: None. ABSENT: None. He amnounced that the present bridge is not in good condi shou~ be rebuilt, and that the Water ¢~ ~ad agreed to raise its water main who it crosses the canyon at the bridge.
