Present: Mayor Done, Oouncllm-n Howe, Brow~, Conyers. Absent Councilman Lyons. 0EDINANOE No. 221: Upon motio~ by Cl. Brow~, eeconded by Cl. Conyers, 0rdinanc. No. ~-~-1 was placed on its second and final reading. It was read, and was passed, adop and approved, as read, ~ the following vote, t~-wit: AYES~ Cl. Howe, Brown, Oonyers Done. N~w.~: None~ .ABSENT: Cl. Lyons. Play Ground l~quiD~t: The ~aatter in eon~ection with establishing a play ground o~ one of the School grounds, as was discussed at the last meeting, was again brought up. A legal opi~lion of the 0ity Attorney was read, wherein he states Shat the airy w ~ot be liable for any accident, so long as the city does not aet~a~ly oeaduct the pl~ ground. Cl. Brown stated that the play grounds will be conducted by the Chula Vista Athletic Association; ~ll that is desired is for the city to purchase the equipment. Upon motion by Cl. Conyers, seconded by Cl. ~owe, which carried, not to exceed $1§0.0 was authorized to pa~v for the eQmil~aent. VACATION: Dr. F. E. A-~croft, city health officer, asked for his ennual vaca- tion of two weeks, to c~ence about ~une l$, 195~. Granted upon motion by Cl. Brown seconded by Gl. Conyers, which carried. PROP~TY ~r~V~T FR0~i TAXES: The clerk read a petition fr~n the California State Veteran's Welfare Board, in which the petitioner asks that the following proper be exempted from city taxes, as the property belongs to the State of California. The law provides that this is legal and authorized, and the clerk was instructed to exempt fr~n city taxes, the North 50 feet of the South 1~0.~ feet of the West ~lf of Lot ll, ~-~ection l~, upon motion by Cl. Brow~, seconded by Cl. Howe, which car- ried. SPECIAL POLICE: Cl. Conyers informed the Council that a number of special police officers had been appointed, from time to time, by the former Chief of Police. A ~mber of these ere no longer required, and the Chief of Police is to confer with the clerk and prepare a list of those not desired, and present it at the next meeting ADJOUtb~-~: Upon motion by Cl.
