The Council met in regular session in the Council Chamber of the City Hall, on the above date, with ~..~yor Keithley presiding° The meeting was called to order at 7 o'clock P.LI., Present: CounciLmen Keithley, H~,le, Burnside, Riesland, Kidder. Absent: None. ~iinutes of the Regular meeting held ~anuary 8, 1945, ~nd of the ~djoarnsd Regular ~etings of Ysmuary 15th and 19th, and a Special ~.~eting held Yanuary 29, 1945, having been prepared and ma~led to each member of the Council, were approved as prepared and mailed. i~tnutes of the Planning Commission meeting held February 5, 1945, ~'~ere r~ad~ CORDREY I~.Y~I~ItrF~JRING COI~A~. ~.~. R. Lowell Davies appeared before the Council, representing a number of property ovmers in the vicinity of Twin 0~ and Davidson, who had signed a petition objecting to the granting of a Permit to reconstruct the Cordrey ~ianufacturing Company building recently burned down. l~.C~rgill also explained to the Council.: that he had investigated the matter of quick acting cement which i~muld make possible the construction of a new factory within a very short time. Inasmuch as a temi~orary building permit had been issued to ~.~. Cordrey by the Building Inspector, it was ~_oved by Counc~l~-~ Keithley, seconded by Council_man Riesland, and carried, that the Building InspectOr be instructed to withdraw the permit issued and ~dvise ~.~.Cordrey that ~ public hearing t~ould be held at 7 o'clock P.~.{., February 19, 1945 in the Council Chmnber. ~GASOLI~ BIDS:. City clerk having notified a ntU~m.ber of Oil Companies that bids would be opened at this meeting for supplying of gasoline to the City for one year, the follo%'~ing vm~e received:- Union 0il Company - Ethyl - l~s cents - Regular lZ~ cents Richfield Oil Company - Ethyl - No Bid - - Regular 15~ cents TexaS Company - Ethyl - 14~' cents - Regular 1E.j cents Shell Company - No Bid Standard Oil Company - No Bid General Petroleum - No Bid Star & Crescent - No Bid Upon motion by Counci]mmu Howe, seconded by Councilman Riesland, which carried, the contract w~s awarded to the Union 0il Company. CARD R005{ RE.~JEST The clerk read a request from k~.Figginbotham for permiss~ion to operate a card room and pool room at 429 National Avenue. >~ Upon motion by Councilman Burnside, seconded by Councilman Keithley, which canried, permission was granted. DISCIJ~,~R: City Attorney requested permission to sign a Disclaimer on property acquired by the United States Government fOrmerly c~ied by Yames J.Flint and Y.W.Farrell in ~'~iar~ersection 149. Upon motion by Councilman Ho~, seconded by CounciLman Kidder, v~lich carried, authorization was granted. CLE~ul~I~S ~1~ DYE~S LICEI~E: ~Lr.Richsrd HaLferty presented a request signed by four Cleening firms located in the City of Chula Vista, that the license fee for out-of-city cleaners for retai~ ~dry cleaning - clothes, be raised to $50°00 per qt~arter, ~ud, on ~otion by Councilman Keithley, seconded by Councilman Riesl~nd, ~hich carried, the city attorney was instructed to ~mend the present Ordinance raising the fee to $50°00 per q u~.~t er o RECREATIOh~ CO~.EilSSION: ~r.Lauderbach representing the Recreation Commission pr'e'sented a report of the ~ctivities of the ~creation Co~mfssion, and discussion followed relative to additional financial aid from the city. ~.~.Riesland suggested that the Rohr Aircraft Corporation be invited to participate in this program, and l.~r. Hooper suggested thnt the local labor union also he invited to participate in the financing of the project. l~roCecil Sparling stated that, in his estimation it would humble the Rec~Bation Cow~ssion to ask for charity ~en the responsibility belonged to the Council stoneo Council did not concur in this, however, and, after further discussion, it was decided to ~g~in take up the matter at the next adjourned meeting of the council to be held i~!onday, February 19, 19~5. REQUST FOR Y~.~O!TgS: I~Jr.H~rry Hall introduced l.~r. Virgil Hall, who requested permission to place benches at bus stops and other convenient places in the city for the convenience of the public in general. ~,~.Richard Halferty had previously bee~ granted permission to put benches at bus stops on Third Avenue. On motion by Councilman Riesland, seconded by CouncilE~u Keithley, v~ich carried, ~r.Plall was granted permission to place benches where they do not conflict with requsst previously granted to I~.Halferty. KI~ TERP~kCE: I~r.Klmball appeared before council requesting acceptance of Kimbal~ Terrace as a public street. Lfter discussion council told i~.l~imball they would be willing when the deeds were presented. ~Lr. I~i~Rhall also requested a small fill to be placed on Third ~venue to ~llow access to his property, ~nd ~.~.Love was instructed to do this at his earliest opportunity. ~SOLUTION N0.708: LCCEPTING L DEED TO PORTION LOT 16, ,~artersection 149 for Street Purposes. Councl~ Keithley offered Resolution No.708. The Resolution was read in full and vms passed, ~dopted and approved by the follo~ing vote, to-wit: Ayes: Councilmen Koithley, Howe, Burnside, l~idder, Rieslando ~oes: l?one.
