PETITION FOR E,I~,~ AV~... STREET 7MPROV~2~T: The clerk read a petition requesting
that the City reg~ade Elm Avenue between J St. and Kearney St. so that proper drainage
could be maintained. The petition was signed by adjacent property Owners. Also that a
street light be placed at Elm Avenue and Kearney Street. After so~e d~scussion Street
Commissioner Ho;,~e was instructed to check and report on same to the City Council.
.PETZTIO~E~ FOR EEARNEY STEEET I~PROVE~,ENT: The clerk read a petition signed by adjacent
property o~ers reques'ting that '~arney"~treet be widened and that the entire width from
Third Avenue east to Fifth Avenue be g~aded and oiled. After some discussion Street
Com~t esioner Howe was instructed to investigate.
The clerk read a written request from i~r. R. H. Taber, Chairm~u of the
P~-ing C~.,.tssion, as to the interpretation of the word "accepted" in extract from the
Minutes of a Regular Meeting of the 0ity Council held Ia~ary ~., 19~4. It was the inter-
pretation of the Council that the meantug of the word "accepted" in this instance was the
s~ as "approved."
0.1~.!,N~E NO.. _~84; Upon motion by Cl. Brown, seconded by Cl. Timuons. which carried,
Ordinance. .No. ~84 was placed on its first reading. This is an ordinance amending Ordinance
No. ~.54, changing certain charges for construction and laying of sewer laterals.
CARD T.=¥~E APPLICATION,: Upon motion by Cl. B town, seconded by Cl. Paxton, which carried,
the application of Edwin H. Brewer to operate a card rOOm with two card tables at ~%? Third
Avenue was approved. This action was taken after Chief I~lly had informed the Council that
he saw no reason why it should not be grouted.
TIDE L'dk~ES: Cl. Bro~ suggested that a letter be written to Representative Izac stating
that the City would deed certain portions of lSthousand feet of tideland, or any amount they
might desire of said portion, to the Federal GOvernment provided they would develop and
improve same. City Attorney Davies was authorized to ~ite such a letter to the proper
officials.
PERIODICAL REPORTS: The monthly report of the City Yudge, the Police Department and the
Fire Department for the month of December, 1969 and of the City T~easurer for the months
of ~r an~ Ne~e~be~, 1939 were e~-mtued and ordered filed.
