~ae Council met pursuant to adjournment in the council chamber in the City Hall on
the above shown date with Mayor Done presiding. The n~eting was called to order at
? o'clock P.M. Present: All members.
FIRE TRUCK i~JRCHASE: ~. Hirsch, representative of the Seagrave Company, was
present and advised that he had made arrang~-~nts so that if the City purchased a truck
from the~ payments for s-me could be made through the B~ of America. The City Attorney
advised that Mm.. Smith of the local b~n~ had advised him that such arrangemauts would
have to be approved hy the Los Angeles b-~ and he had not as yet received a co-.mAmication
from them in regard to s-me~. The Fire Chief, upon being as~i ~hat his choice would be
stated that inas~.uch as ?0 per cent of the fire apparatus in use is Seagrave he felt that
it would give as good service as ~uything that could be purchased. He also stated that
the fact that the city of San Diego is Seagrave equipped would be to our advantage in case
we needed repairs. The representative of the Mack truc~ was also present and talked
to the Council in regard to the merits of their machine. Upon motion by Gl. Timmons,
seconded by Cl. Brown, which carried, it was decided that the City should buy the Sea-
g~ave apparatus as described- ?50 gallon pumper, lZ cylinders, at a total price of
$10,215.68, subject to a contract that will be approved by the Council. The representa-
tives of the Seagrave Company were advised that they should get in touch with the City
Attorney with reference to the contract.
~ LETDER OF APPRECIATION: The deputy city clerk read a letter of appreciation from
Ma-. Harold B. B. Allen Manager of the Fiesta, th.~ing the Council for their cooperation
in bringing the 19~9 l~lesta de la ~ to a successful conclusion.
RESIGNATION OF R. A. HIGC~: The deputy city clerk read a letter of resignatio~ from
L~. R. A. Hlggs, tendering his reslg~ation from the position of city clerk, same to be-
come effective September ~0, 1~9, and expressing his appreciation to the Council and
various department heads for the splendid cooperation they had accorded him in the past.
~Upon motion of Cl. Howe, seconded by Cl. Brown, which carried, the.resignation of ~. Higgs
as city clerk was accepted with regret.
DRIVERS' LICENSE T~ESTS: May°r Done stated that he had been informed by Chief E~lly
that the Division of Motor Vehicles were sending men out to other small towns to give
drivers' tests, which practice was discontinued some months ago, and that if Chula Vista
would request this service he felt sure it would be resumed. Upon motion by Cl. Browa,
seconded by Cl. Ttw..ons, which carried, it was ordered that the Clerk be instructed to
write the Division of Notor Vehicles requesting them to resume this service in Chula Vista.
OFFICE OF CITY C ~EE~ ,: D~yor Done brought up the matter of filling the office made
vacant b~ 't'he resignation of the City Clerk. Cl. Brown stated that there has been so
much adverse comment that he could not conscientiously back up the gentlema~ already
chosen. Cl. Done said that it had been agreed that what was decided at a previous meeting
was what would be done and he felt that the Council should stand by their decision. Cl.
Timmons said that he had given his word and he would stic~ by it. Cl. Howe suggested
that as it seemed impossible to get together at this time they put the ~atter off until
the regular meeting on next ~onday, which it was decided so to do.
AR$0UR~ENT: Upon motion by Cl. Brown, seconded by Cl. Howe, which carried, this
Council adjourned sine die.
