~ AND LIGHT WINES: An informal election having been held in this city on
April ~4, 1953, on the question aa to whether or not this Council should authorize l~ae
sale of light wf~es an~ beer of She legal alcoholic contents, the ~eault of which
1165 votes for the sale of such beverages, and 3?4 votes against such ~ale. An ordin-
ance having been prepare~ which woul~ cover the ~ale of these beverages, upon motion by
Cl. Oonyers, seconded by 01. l~owa, 0~dinance No. 225 was placed on its first rea~ing.
I~t~DGING IN T~E BAY: A letter from the U. S. District ~agineer, at Los Ange,es,
was read, in which that office asks if this titS. ie l~vepered to pay its share of
$6800.00 require~ to be pai~ by National City and this city, for ~edging in the bay
along She water front. Clerk instructed to reply to the effect that the present coon-
mmic conditions here, at this time, will not permit of such payment.
BASE BALL PARK: Gl. Rrcwn asked this Council to pay for the electric oux-rent
required to light the ball grounds for a couple of months, to start the night b~11
games this yeer. Upon motion by Cl. C~nyers, seconded by Cl. Brown, which oar~ied,
this city will pay for the electric surrent for one month only. Cl. Lyons voted No
on this propoeition.
TI~E LAND T.~: 0ol. Collier of San Diego, and $ohn E. Blaekman, of Coronado,
presented a le~ze for a portion of the city's tide lands. The lense was not ~ead.
DANGER0~ 00~: Cl. Conyers reported that the safety painting at the
corners of 2md and 3rd Avenues, at E Street, as heretofore brought up before this
Council, will cost approximately $60.00. He stated that the police budget for this
purpose will withstand all of this expemditure, and upon motion by Cl. Lyons, seconded
by Cl. Brown, whleh carried, the work was authorized any balance require~ after the
police budget is exhausted, to be paid by the general fund. Th~e includes painting
prohibited parking spaces.
