S~EET SI(~{'. The city engineer reported that no progress has been ~ade in the
matter of installing a street sign at National and E, as he has not, as yet, heard frc~
the State authorities on the type of street sign that they will authorize.
VAOATIONS: The Street Superintendent, by letter, reported the dates on whieh e~-
ployes of hl~ department had taken their vasations this year, blanket authority for these
vaeations having been granted by this Counsil, ~une 6, 19~3.
S~EET ~XEES~ The owners of a lemon orehard on G Street, between National and Bay,
Misses Lois Brun~red and Scan R. Miehler, informed this 0ounoil that the pepper trees,
fronting their orehard, is eovered with soft brown seals, whieh is a m---ce to the orchard
in qu~stion. Upon motion by Clo 0ony~rs, seeon~ed by 01. Brown, which serried, this mat-
ter is referred to the City Tree War~en to investigate, and if conditions warrant, to have
the pepper trees sprayed, at lowest obtainable cost.
CXq.DINANGE:No. 2~8: Upon motion by 01. BI-own, sesonded by 01. Oonyers, which carried,
ordi-a~e No. 228 WaS placed on its eeeond and final reading. The ord~nR-ee was read, and
was passed, adopted .r.~ approved, as read, by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: 01o I~we,
Lyons, Brown, O~nyers. N0~S: None. ABSENT: None.
~ LI~UID~: The Fire C~ief ln-esented an ordinance for adoption, whioh would
sontrol the storage and use of lnflamable liquids throughout the slty. The proposed ord-
inance was read, but no action taken, the members of the 0ounoil e~esoing a desire to
have time to go over the various provisions of this ordinause.
FRANGHIS~ SUIT: In eonnection with the suit by this city against the San Diego 0on-
solidated Gas axed Eleetrie Oc~any, for full payments on the f~anehise of this company,
the elerk read a letter from the ec~pany, da.~-ding that this city pay to the oom~any, the
sum of $4,964.80, an an amount that the company had paid to the wiry, through error. As
this matter is in the hands of fas eity attorney, letter ordered filed°

0RDINAI~ES: In the matter of the new law directing the city elerk to publish all
ordinan~es after passage, the eity attorney explained that his opinion is that the fail-
ure to have ~ush ordinames published, will not invalidate the ordl-~nee. Cl. Oonyers
stated, that in view of the provisions of the new law, ordl--~oes s~ould be published.

N- R. A. ~he city engineer again presented a proposed project for improvements,
under the National Reeo~atru~tion Act. The project proposes to pave 20.15 miles of city
streets; 2~ miles to~be 2~ fo~t strip pavi~g. The project, also, plans for a recreation
center, the total oo~*~Jeot is esti~ted aa $166,200. Deducting frc~ this amount
the grant of the Federal ~overnment, will require bonds to be voted in the amount of
$116,340. Upon motion by 01. Rowe~ seconded by 01, Brown, which carried, the city en-
gineer was instructed to w~W~ appll~ation to the Federal Gover~mA~t to finance the plan,
under a fifteen year payment plan.
FRANCHISE TOLL~: The city attorney lnfo~-med this Oounoil that the City attorney of
Pasadena has a suit against She electric company of his city, amd wants to ocmsult with
our city attorneys mad in a way combine on the legal questions involved in both suits.
Authority fcr the expenses of our city att~ney to visit Pasadena mud spend a day there,
at a esot to the city of about $15.00, was granted upon motion by 01. Howe, seconded by
01. Brown, which Carried.
FIRE E~PARTMENT: In the matter of extending telephones to the sleeping quarters
in the fire department~ heretofore authorized to cost $~o00 and $1o75 per year, it was
found that these figures were erroneous. The cost will be $10.00 with $~.00 per year,
which was authorized upon motion by 01. Oonyers, seconded by 01. Howe, which sexy&ed.
PERIODICAL REPORTS: The monthly reports of She 6ity fudge, Fire Chief and C~ief of
Police, for the month of September, and the quarterly report of the City Treasurer,
were ordered filed.
