RE: Brookfield Properties'Chula Vista Center Mixed-Use Project
Dear Chair Zaker and Members of the Chula Vista Planning Commission,
On behalf of the South County Economic Development Council (SCEDC), please accept this
letter of support for Brookfield Properties' Chula Vista Center project. SCEDC strives to improve
and enhance South County's bi-national economy, image, and quality of life; and to heighten
public awareness of Southern California's most desirable location to live, work and dream.
SDEDC is proud to support efforts that increase home ownership opportunities and revitalize
South County. Brookfield Properties' Chula Vista Center Mixid-Use project will replace an
aging, unused retail location with a well-designed mixed-use project that is respectful of the
surrou nding neighborhood.
While there have been many additions to the housing stock in eastern Chula Vista, there has
been limited investment in producing new, for-sale housing product in western Chula Vista. The
Chula Vista Center Mixed-Use project will provide 244 2- and 3-story for-sale townhomes that
will range from studious to 3-bedroom units. ln addition to providing much-needed workforce
for-sale housing, the project is also providing more parking than required by code, ensuring that
the project's tenants will not affect parking in the surrounding community. Finally, the project
will build a new park, helping to accomplish City leaders' well-documented goal of building
more parks in western Chula Vista.
This project is a positive economic indicatorof continued investment in the City's west side. For
these reasons and more, SDEDC is pleased to support Brookfield Properties' Chula Vista Center
Mixed-Use project.
