Dear Chair Zaker:
On behalf of the YIMBY Democrats of San Diego County, please accept this letter
of support for the proposed redevelopment of the Chula Vista Center. The YIMBY
Democrats of San Diego County are dedicated to growing San Diego in the
communities where we live. In addition to developing more affordable and
market-rate housing to increase the supply of housing, we believe in prioritizing
infill development near transit and employment centers with the goal of increasing
our housing supply, leveraging our urban environments, protecting our natural
resources and advancing economic inclusion and opportunity for all.
The Chula Vista Center Project will build 244 townhomes, which would provide
much needed workforce housing in Chula Vista. Located in an urbanized and
smart growth opportunity area, the project is also located near an existing transit
facility. There is an inherent benefit of dense housing directly next to transit, as it
provides transit options.The Project provides an opportunity to provide workforce
housing and homeownership in lieu of an empty Sears building and parking lot.
The YIMBY Democrats of San Diego County respectfully urges the Planning
Commission support of the Chula Vista Center Project. We look forward to the
potential for new housing options close to transit. Thank you for your time and
