COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, HEUbD TUESDAY,
JUNE 24, 1947.
The City Council met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall on the above
date, with the following Members present: Councilmen Riesland, Nashold, Kidder.
Absent: Councilmen Koester and DySOno
On motion by Councilman Nashold, seconded by Councilman Kidder, which carried,
Councilman Riesland was appointed Mayor pro-rem.
SEi~R PLANT REPORT: ¥~.James Carwile gave a report of his conference
with Engineer Ireland of National City, and stated that the City of National City
was apparently enthusiastic over the prospects of a joint plant to serve both
cities. However, a definite commitment could not be obtained from National City
until after their meeting July 1, 1947. MroCarwile left his written report
for filing.
PUGET PACIFIC PLANES INC. ~oFitzhugh and Mr.Underhill of the Southern
Engineering Company, together with Mr.Krames of the Santa Fe Railway, and Mr.Ted
Kusick of the SanDiego Chamber of Commerce, were present and discussed at length
the prospects of establishing a factory for the manufacture of aeroplanes by the
Puget Pacific Planes Inc., on land owned by the Santa Fe Land Company, at the
foot of "J" Street.
Mr.Fitzhugh explained that the company was having trouble in negotiating with the
Santa Fe Land Company for a site on which to build a 2000 foot runway. After
discussion it was thought that a letter of recommendation by the city to the
Santa Fe Land Company, might he~o, and City Attorney Higgs was instructed to
~ransmit such a letter expressing the desire of the council. The motion was
made by CouncS_~man Nashold, seconded by Councilman Kidder, and carrieda
GA~U{ETT ST~gET OPSNINGo ~oGriffin appeared before Council to discuss the matter
of opening and acceptance of Garrett Street to a width of 60 feet, extending north
from "E" Street to and connecting with the southerly extension of Garrett Street
as it now exists south of "D" Street°
After much discussion it was moved by Council~nan Kidder, seconded by Councilman
Nashold, and carried, that the city clerk be authorized to write a letter to
Griffin, stating that, if he, Mr.Oriffln, would pay the sum of $1425.O0 to the
City of Chula Vista, the city would proceed with the acquisition of easements and
open Garrett Street to a width of 60 feet, grading same and surfacing with road

BILLS PAID: Warrants Nos.6180 to 6217, after examination by the entire council,
and approval by the Finance Conmuittee, were ordered paid.
RESOLUTION N0o804o ACCEPTING TAX D~D ~lt0M SAM CLAGGETT. Tax Collector~
Councilman Nashold offered Resolution No~804. The Resolution was read in full
and was passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: Ayes:
Councilmen Nashold, Kidder, Rieslando Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen Koester /x
and Dysono
PURCHASE OF LAND: (GRANITE PIT): The clerk notified the council that the
old Granite P~t, known as the Floodberg property, could be purchased for a total
sum of $201.93, and upon motion by Councilman Kidder, seconded by Councilman
Nashold, which carried, the clerk was authorized to secure a Deed for acceptance
by the council°
