HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1947/08/12MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE cITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 1947. The City Council met in regular session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, on the above date° The meeting was called to order at 7 o~clock P.Mo withMayor Koester presiding. Present: Councilmen Koester, Dyson, Riesland. Absent: Councilmen Nashold, Kidder° BILLS PAID: After examination by the entire council, Warrants Nos. with b~l.ts attached, were ordered paid by the following vote, to-wit: Ayes: Councilmen Koester, Dyson, Rieslando Noes: None° Absent: Councilmen Nashold, Kidder. The clerk read the minutes of the meeting held August 5, 19~7, and on motion by Councilman R~esland, seconded by Counc~]man Dyson, which carried, the minutes were approved° RESOLUTION N0o822: AWARDING CONTRACT TO CONSTRUCT A ~£W FIR~ STATION: TO F.E.YOUNG; CONTRACTOR: Councilman Dyson offered Resolution No.822. The Resolution was read in full and ~as passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: Ayss: Co~lcilmen Dyson, Riesland~ Koestero Noes: None° Absent; Councilmen Kidder, Nashold. SURETY BOND: GRIFFIN PARK: Mr. Arthur Lynds of the Chula Vis6a Development Company, appeared before council to request permission to substitute a twe year bond dating from March 1947, for the one year bond now filsd in the office of the city clerk, for the faithful ~.J~.~--~-~ performance of installation of improve- ments in Griffin Park. On motion by Councilman Riesland, zeconded by Councilman Dyson, and carried, permission was granted subject to approval by City Attorney Higgs. Mr.Lynds made a brief report on the progress of the pipe line now being laid between San Vicente Dam and Sweetwater Reservoir, and stated that completion wa~ e~pected some time in February or March of next year° SEegER INSTALLATION: Mr.Herbert Tompkins appeared before council to ask if a policy could be established by the city council, whereby a private party installing sewer mains in city streets, could be reimbursed by those lots receiving the benefit. City Attorney Niggs advised that there is no way other than the creation of an assessment district. HEARING ON VACATION OF ALLEY (Hasard): There having been published in the Chula Vista Star a Resolution of Intent to close alley, the alley having been posted according to law, and this being the time for a hearing set for protests against the closing of the alley, the Mayor asked if anyone in the audience had a protest o Mr°Charles Hazard asked for a clarafication of the drainage problem, and, after a brief discussion~ requested a continuance of the hearing for a period of one month. On motion by CounciLman Riesland, seconded by Councilman Koester, and carried, the continuance was granted° ORDINANCE NOo380: SETTING TAX RATE FOR 1947. Upon motion by Councilman Koester, seconded by Comncilman Riesland, which carried, Ordinance No°380 was placed on its second reading° The Ordinance was read in full and was passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: Ayes: Councilmen Koester, Riesland,Dyson° Noes: None° Absents Comncilmen Nashold, Kidder~ The Ordinance was in its exact form as when placed on its first reading, J~ly 15, 1947o NATIONAL GUARD: Major Bryant Kearney appeared before council to request a space of approximately five (5) acres in Eucalyptus Park, upon which to build an armory, and, inasmuch as there was some confusion as to just what was desired, it was moved by Councilman Riesland, seconded by CounciLman Dyson, and carried, that a letter be sent to the Adjutant General of the State of California, Sacramento, asking what he would desire. RECORD OF SUR~U~f: City Engineer Algert presented a Record of Survey of a portion_~ of Lot 12, in Quartersection 1~6~ On motion by Cou~cilman Riesland, seconded by Councilman Dyson, which carried, the Record of Survey was approved° AD JOUR~qx~I~'T: On motion by Councilman Riesland, seconded by CounciLman Dyson, which carried, the meeting was adjourned to August 20, 1947 at 7 PoMo
