The City Council met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall on the above date, with the following members present: Councilmen Koester, Dyson, Kidder, Riesland. Absent: Councilman Nashold. PEPJ~rrSSION TO L~A'~E ST~T~: On motion by Councilman Riesland, seconded by Councilman Dyson, which carried, CounciLman Nashold was granted permission to leave the state for a period of thirty (30) days. RESOLUTION N0.853: Counc~lman Riesland offered Resolution No.853 which is a Resolution hiring ~.Harry C .Foster as City Engineer at a salary of $450.00 per month effective March 1, 19~8o The Resolution was read in full and was passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: ayes: Councilmen Riesland, Koester, Dyson,Kidder. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Nashold. C~d{D ROOM ~PPLICATION: The application from ~r.Harold Nease to opera~ a card room at 246 National Avenue, was brought up for action. Chief of Police recommended that no more card rooms be granted licenses until an increase in population occurred. It was moved by Councilman Riesland, seconded by Councilman Kidder, and carried, that the application be denied. In a discussion which followed, it was moved by Councilman Riesland, seconded by Councilman Koester, and carried, that the city attorney draft an amendment to the present card room ordinance which would allow one card roes for each 5000 population or a fraction thereof. S~ITATION DISTRICT: ~r.Freeland appeared before council to explain the request of the Claire Vista Corporation for the organization of a Sanitation District and an agreement by which the City of Chula Vista for compensation ~ould receive and treat the sewage from same. He explained that a survey ~ had been made of all existing lines in the city and that they show ample capacity to carry all future connections within the city limits, and also in the proposed outside district. After considerable discussion it was the coneemeus of opinion that the city should encourage the ,~nnexation of this district in order that a more equitable conclusion might be reached~ ~.Freeland promised to convey the sentiments of the council back to the developers and report later. OhD14~J~CE N0.~67: An Ordinance reEulatin~ Taxi--Cabs. On mot&on by Councilman Rie$1and, seconded by Councilman Koester, which carried, Ordinance No.367 was placed on its second reading/. The title having been read ~ud the Ordinance being in its exact form as when placed on its first reading January 19, 1948, it was moved by Councilman Hiesland, seconded by Councilman Koester, and carried, that further reading o£ the text be waived. The Ordinance w~s passed, adopted' and approved by the following vote, to-wit: Ayes: Councilmen Riesland,Koester, Dyson, Kidder. Noes; None. Absent: Counc~lTan Nashold. ~SOLUTION NO.85~: Cotu~cilman Dyson offered Resolution No.854. This Aea Resolution authorizing issuance of Notice of Completion of the new Fire Station. The ~esolution was read in full and was passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: Ayes: Councilmen Dyson, Kidder, Riesland, Koester. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman N ashold. WARRANT N0.6832. After examination by the council, Warrant No~6832 9as authorized by motion of Councilman Kidder, seconded by C. ouncilman Riesland, and carried. (Revolving Fund $36.25 - League of C alifornza Cities Dinner 1/16/48). ~j.i~TT..;~ PAi{K T~.J-~: The Planning Commission having recon~ended the removal of all the trees in the parking in Smailes Park except Cocos Plumosa, and the replace- ment of same with Cocos Plumosa Palms, it was moved by Councilman Koe~ter, seconded by Councilman Riesland, and carried, that this work be done as soon as conveniently possible.
