HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1948/08/10 D!II~UTES OF RE~LrLAR ~EETl%~G OF T~IE CITY C0%%!CIL OF THE CITY OF ~ ~;TSTA, CaLrFORk~I~ Held Tuesday August 10, 1948 The Council met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall on the above date, at ? o'clock PoI,~. with the following members present: Councilmen: Koester, Riesland, Kidder, Dyson, Nashold PIAk~NI~TG C0~;~SSION ~U3TES ~Iinutes of the Planning Co~mnission meeting held aUgust 2, 19~:8 were approved upon motion by Councilmau Rieslaud, seconded by Councilman Dysan, and carried, with the follov~lng exeeptlon: In the matter of zone vari~uce for Nrc Wilson the Clerk was instructed to notify the planning Co~muission that they did not approve the granting of a zone variance to Wilson, and requested that the Pl~/uning Cormmisalon give further study to the request and take action at their next meeting° aUDITOR'S REI~0RT: The Clerk presented the Auditor's report for the fiscal year Yuly l, 19~? to June 30, 19~8. ?~o Harold Frank, our special Auditor being present, discussed different phases of the report and gave a very interesting picture of the financial prodeedings and conditions of the City. His report was enthusiastically received. PURCHASE OF ~OTOR GRADER: I~. Hess was present for the purpose of selling to the City of Chula Vista a new motor grader of heavier construction than the one now owned and capable of better work. A demonstration of the machine had been given and it was generally conceded by the Council that the machine was adequate and that the City perhaps did ~ need it, but after being advised by ~o Bryant that in his opinion the City should not exhaust it's financial reserves at this time due to uncertainty of conditions relative to sewer plant construction, no further action was taken. RESOLUTIONNoo 9~5 a Resolution of Intention to Participate in the State E~ployees Retirement System° This was offered by Councilman Riceland, read in full, passed ~dopted aud approved by the following wote to-wit: ayes: Councllmen Riesland, Nashold, Dyson, tqidder, Koester Noes: Eone Absent: None SWIS~NGPOOL SITE: ~iro C. 0. Smith having previously offered to give plot of ground at Third avenue and D. Streets for a swirm~ing pool site previ lng the City would install a certain Street free of charge to him, was present sad withdrew his offer° BEECH STREET: There having been ~ request for the opening of Beech Street south from it's present terminus between E. and F. Streets to Fo Street, the matter was discussed and it was moved by Counci~uan Rieslaud, seconded by Councilman Kidder~ and carried, that the City Engineer be instructed to contact interested parties and try aud get them to participate in the cost° RE~rION~NOSo 9~7 to 9&~, inclusive. Accepting Easements for Sewer Purposes. Thesewere offered by Councilman Nasholdo The Resolutions were all of the same fo~m and authorized acceptance of Easements from the following parties: Yammmoto, ~larkis, Whitney, O'Leary, Stout, Whittler, Whittingham, Smith, respectively. The Resolutions were read in full, passed en masse by the following vote to-vdt: AYES: Councilmen Nashold, Dyson, Kidder, Koester, Riesland NOES: None ABSEnt: None ~C~NGE 0R~ER-TRUh~ 8~.~RS: Upon motion by Councilm~n I~yson, seconded by Councilmen Kidder, which carried, Chenge Order NOo 2 for Trunk Sewer contract with ~. Dorl~uan w~s authorized. FIESTA: After a lengthy discussion regarding the polio epidemic in Chul~ Vista and the advisability of cencellation of the Fiesta for this year, it was r~oved by Couucilman Kidder, seconded by Councilm~u Dyson, and c~rried, that the Clerk instruet the Fiesta Co~ittee that due to the request of Dr. Lesem, it was mendatory that the Fiesta be cancelled until such time as in the opinion of Dr. Lesem, our health officer, the polio epidemic should subside to such a degree it would be advisable to discuss the opening of the Fiesta at a later date° PE~I~ION TO LEAVE STATE: Councilman Dyson requested permission to leave the ~tate for thirty days beginning August El, 19~8.
