~afu.~: Cl. Howe told the Council of conversations that ha had had with
ego ~--bor Oo-..~ssioner, relative to the pzospests of getting the
Federal ~overnment to assist in dredging a channel along our ti~elonde and using the
~=~dgings to fill in for an aixpox't. M~. Choate stated that he believed that the
govex~maent woul~ be willing to assist the city in sai~ venture. Upon motion by
Cl. Howe, seconded by Cl. T~w~one, whieh carried, the clerk was ins$~uetad to invite
~. w-*us Choate --d Mr. ~oe Brennen, San Diego ~--bor Master, to the next meeting of
this Council for discussion over said d~e~ging.

The City Attorney pre~ented ~ata on the delinquent taxes
and the assessed valuatio~ of p~ope~ty in the Mattoon Dietrist, pointing out
~4 of the 1~6 p~oels in ~aid ~Ltstriet are ~p_~eve4 azd represent about one half of
the tolal a~eeeed valuation. After a ~eat deal of discussion Cl. Howe mede a
motion, which wa~ seconded by Cl. Ti~mone, aud whish aarx~ed, that a e~ttee of
p~opex'ty owners and zepreoeatstivee of the title ocularS_es be appointed to contest
Mr. Abbey and work out, with him, a prog~m for the settlemeext of She Ma~toon Bistxiot
and then pzesent their p~og~am to the 0ounoil for ooneide~atione
