OF THE CI~f COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA
Held Wednesday, September 20, 1950
The Council met in the Council Chambers of the City Hall on the above date at 7:00
o'clock P.M. with the following members present: Councilmen Kidder, Logan, DeWolfe.
Absent: Councilmen Riesland, Hobel.
GAS TAX STREET IMPROVEMENT CONTRACT - Awarding of Bid.
It was moved by Council,mn DeWolfe, seconded by Councilman Kidder, ~nd carried,
that the bid of Oaks Construction Company for Item No. 1, $.315; Item No. 2, $2.65;
Item No. 3, $.315; Item No. 4, $.04; Item No. 5, $7.40; Item No. 6, $.065; and in the
total amount of $19,616.69, be accepted; that the Mayor be authorized to execute the
contract; and that the City Administrator be directed to return the bid deposits to the
unsuccessful bidders, by the following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen DeWolfe, Kidder, Logan.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen Riesland, Hobel.
Mr. Oaks was present at the time this contract was awarded.
SEWER LATE~8 - Awarding of Contract.
It was moved by Councilman Logan, seconded by Councilman DeWolfe, and carried, that
the bid of Cameron Brothers in the amount of $3.45 per lineal foot, (with a deduction of
5% where 10 or more Jobs are offered at one time) be accepted; that the City Administra-
tor be authorized to notify them of acceptance of their bid, and that the other bids be
rejected by the following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen Logan, DeWolfe, Kidder.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen Riesland, Hohel.
ORDINANCE NO. 423 - Declaration of Intention to vacate portion of Corte Maria Avenue,
Second reading.
It was moved by Councilman Logan, secohded by Councilmnn Kidder, and carried, that
Ordinance No. 423 be placed on its second reading. After the reading of the title, it
was moved by Councilman Kidder, seconded by Councilman Logan, and carried, that the read-
ing of the text be waived. The Ordinance was passed by the following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen Kidder, Logan, DeWolfe.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen Riesland, Hobel.
ADDITIONAL MEN IN THE ENGINEERING AND BUILDING DEPARTMENT.
It was moved by Councilman DeWolfe, seconded by Councilman Kidder, and carried, that
the Civil Service Cowamission review the salary range of the Engineering Aid.
Due to the work lmad on the Engineering Department and the amount of work that is
behind, the City Engineer requested more men for his Department. It was moved by Council-
man Kidder, seconded by Councilman Logan, and carried, that the City Administrator be
authorized to employ one man for the Building Department and two men for the Engineering
Department on a three month temporary basis.
CORRESPONDENCE.
The City Clerk read a letter fromM rs. Evangeline T. McCullam of 35~ Roosevelt St.,
strongly objecting to the suggested removal of the park area between F Street and Madrona
along Third Avenue for parking spaces.
SALE OF STREET SWEEPER.
The City Clerk read a letter from A. R. Campbell, purchasing agent for Rohr Aircraft
Corporation, making an offer of $600 for the used Elgin Street Sweeper owned by the City.
It was moved by CounciLman Kidder, seconded by Councilman DeWolfe, and carried, that the
offer of Rohr Aircraft Corporation be' accepted, providing that the City Attorney finds
that it is legal for us to enter into a contract with Rohr Aircraft Corporation in view
of the fact that one of our Councilmen may be a stock owner in the Corporation.
~RESOLUTION NO. 1172 - Approving escrow instructions for sale of old City Hall.
Offered by Councilman DeWolfe, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the
following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen DeWolfe, Kidder, Logan.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen Riesland, Hobel.
~RESoLuTION NO. 1173 - Authorizing the execution of a Grant Deed for the old City Hall.
Offered by Councilman Logan, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the
following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen Logan, DeWolfe, Kidder.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmen Riesland, Hobel.
AMENDMENT TO SECTIONS 8, 9 and 10 of the CIVIL SERVICE RULE 2.
It was moved by Councilman DeWolfe, seconded by Councilm~n Kidder, and carried,
that the City adopt the recom,~ndation of the Civil Service Co~m~ission with regards to
Sections 8, 9 and 10 of Civil Service Rule 2.
BUILDING OFFICIALS CONFERENCE CONVENTION.
It was moved by Councilman Kidder, seconded by Councilman DeWolfe, and carried,
that Mr. A. E. Cord, Building Inspector, be authorized to attend the Building Officials
Conference to be held in San Diego the first week of October, the City to pay the neces-
sary fees. Mr. Bryant was directed to discuss the times Mr. Cord would be gone and if
possible, to limit his time away from work to two days.
ADJOURNMENT.
It was moved by Councilman DeWolfe, seconded by Councilman Logan, and carried,
that the meeting adjourn sine die.
