HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1951/05/29MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOURneD ~ETING OF THE, CITY COU~TCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Held Tuesday, May 29, 1951 The City Council met in the Council Chamber at City Hall on the above date at 7:00 o'clock P.~. with the following Councilmen present: Hobel, Riosland, Logan, Kidder. Absent: Councilman DeWolfe. Also Present: Administrative Officer Bryant, City Attorney Boyer, Asst. City Engineer Wheeler. Request for T&xi Rate Change ~. T. B. Thomas, of the Yellow Cab Co., appeared before the Council requesting that he be allowed to change his fare rates from the meter to the flat rate system. It was moved by Councilman Riesland, seconded by Councilman Imgan, and carried, that the fare rates be changed as requested, and that City Attorney Boyer prepare an amend- ment to the present Ordinance to comply. Freeland, engineer for the California General, Inc., approached the Co~nci] on the possibility of the City sharir~g i~ the east ~f a propose~ sewer to serve their new factory on lower F Street. It was decided that ~r. Bryant and ?. o Boyer should investigate the ma~ ter and report back at the June 12 meeting. Civil Service Recommendations Letters were read from the Civil Service Commission reco~aending approval of the addition of the position of kenne~an and ~he creating of a new permanent position for operator at the sewage treatment plant. It was moved by Councilman midder, seconded by Councilman Riesland, and carried, that the recommendations of the Com- mission be approved. Release of City Judge - ?fcodrow Wilson It having been ascertained that if more than one Judge was eligible, no action on the part of the Count) would be taken until 1953 to take over the~micipal Court in Chula Vista, the advis~oility of releasing Judge Wilson mud hiring Judge Howe was discussed at length. Subsequently, it was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Riesland, and carried, that the services of Judge Woodrow Wilson be dis- continued effective at the close of business~ June 30, 19~1, and that Judge Lowell Howe be appointed to serve as judge, effective July 1, 1951. Inasmuch as Judge Howe volunteered to serve without salary until January l, 19~2, or until an election for m~n~icipal judge is held, no provision was made for compensation other than an amount of ~00. OO to be set up for vacation re!~ef judge, or other emergencies. Resolution No. 1226 - Calling for Bids on Traffic Signals Offered by Councilman Kidder, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-~.vit: AYES: Councilmen Kidder, Riesland, Logan, Hobel. NOES: None. ABSENT: Councilman DeWolfe. Resolution F.o. 1227 - Executing Grant Deed to Glen ~[. ~aoel~ on Country Club Lots Offered by Councilman Riesland, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Riesland, Kidder, logan, Hobel. NOES: None. ABSENT: Councilman DeWolfe. Resolution No. 1228 - Third Avenue Extension - Calling for Bids Offered by Councilman Kidder, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the -2- following vote, to-wit.. A~: Councilmen Kidder, Logan, Riesland, Hobel. NO~: None. ABSENT: Councilman DeWolfe. AdJournment It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Riesland, and carried, that the meeting adjourn, sine die.
