OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA
Held Tuesday, June 17, 1952
The City Council met in the Council Chamber on the above date at 7:00 P.M.
with the following Councilmen present: DeWolfe, Halferty, Logan, Hobel.
Absent: Councilman Riesland.
Also Present: Administrative Officer Bryant, City Attorney Boyer, City Planner Wagner,
City Engineer Floyd.
In the absence of Mayor Riesland, Mayor pro tempore DeWolfe presided at the
meeting.
V RECOMMENDATION FOR DIRECTIONAL SIGN - Planning Commission.
City Planner Wagner presented a letter from the Planning Commission with their
recommendations for a directional sign to be located on the premises of the old City
dump property adjacent to Montgomery Freeway, said sign to direct motorists to the
Chula Vista business districts and tourists accommodations. City Attorney Boyer
stated that if the land is leased by the City, a provision should be made, whereby if
the City has to sell the property, said lease may be terminated with a 30 -day notice;
also that the City should reserve the right to use the land for capital development.
It was moved by Councilman Hlaferty, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and carried, that
the City of Chula Vista put up a directional sign as recommended by the Planning
Commission, and that an expenditure of ~$1,500.00 be authorized for the sign.
ORDINANCE NO. 455 - Regulating Parking on Third Avenue - Second Reading.
It was moved by Councilman Logan, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and carried, that
the Ordinance be placed on its second reading. After the reading of the title, it
was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Logan, and carried, that the
reading of the text be waived. The Ordinance was adopted by the following vote,
to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Logan, Hobel, Halferty, DeWolfe.
NOES: None,
ABSENT: Councilman Riesland.
RESOLUTION NO. 1332 - Approving Amended Agreement for Maintenance of State Highway.
Offered by Councilman Hobel, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the
following vote, to -wit:
AYES: Councilmen Hobel, Halferty, DeWolfe, Logan.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilman Riesland.
REPORT ON PARKING METERS NEEDED ON THIRD AVENUE: - Major Floyd.
City Engineer Floyd reported that installation of parking meters on Third Ave.
from "G" Street South would require 39 meters, with three on "G" Street, making a
total of 42 meters. It was moved by Councilman Logan, seconded by Councilman Hobel,
and carried, that the Administrative Officer be authorized to negotiate a purchase
contract for 42 parking meters.
1 RECREATION COMMISSION REPORT
Mr. Chapman and Mr. Lincoln, representing the Recreation Commission, appeared
before the Council with regard to the continuation of the Youth Center without a
Recreation Director, Por. "feldon or Mr. Lincoln to be in charge, until a suitable
person can be found for Civil Service appointment. Due to the housing shortage, the
Recreation Director appointed by the Civil Service Commission was unable to accept
the position. Mr. Weldon, who has been serving temporarily, was recommended to fill
the vacancy temporarily, except while he is away at College Summer Sessions until
such time that a Director can be obtained, Mr. Lincoln to serve during 'fr. Weldon's
absence. The recreation budget was also discussed at this time.
, PUBLIC HEARING ON BUDGET
This being the time and place, as advertised, for a public hearing on the budget
for the fiscal year 1952-1953, the City Administrator presented the proposed budget
to the Council, and the Council then proceeded to review same. There being no protests
either verbally or in writing, the public hearing was declared closed. Certain re-

visions were made. It was thereupon moved by Councilman Hobel and seconded by
Councilman Logan that the budget for fiscal year 1952-1953 be adopted as submitted
and revised. The motion was carried by the following vote, to -wit:
AXES: Councilmen Hobel, Halferty, DeWolfe, Logan.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilman Riesland.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Lo,;an, and carried, that
the meeting adjourn until 7:00 P.M., June 24, 1952.
