HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1953/04/24 MINUT~ OF AN ADJO%~gED ~ING of the City Council of the City of Chnl, Vista, Onl t fornia - Held Friday -- April 24, 1953 The Council met in the Council Chamber at City Hall at 3:0~ P.M on the above date, with the following Councilmen present: Councilmen - Logan, Hobel, Riesland, DeWolfe, HalFerty Absent: Councilman - None Also present: Chief A~mtnistrative Officer Bryant, City Attorney Boyer, City Engineer Floyd, City Planner Wagner, City Finance Officer Grant /~IVILIAN DEFENSE- Request for Radio Transmitter Receiver sets - F~vle Stewart Kyle Stewart, Assistant Director of Civil Defense, requested the Council to budget for Civil Defense, a 10OO watt gasoline driven electric generator plant to be installed in the bowl, and 25 radio transmitter receiver sets. The cities share of the cost would be $1650.00 which would include the generator, the 25 receivers at $62.50 each, and proper radiator attachments for cars using the receivers. It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman DeWolfe, that two full amount of the request be budgeted with authorization for the purchase of 8 receivers now, at $62.50 each, and the additional sets purchased when needed and requested, as operators become available. The motion carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Counci]m-n Hobel, Riesland, DeWolfe, Halferty, Logan Absent: None Noes: None H. STREET R~QUESTED AS THROUGH STRmmr M~. Kyle Stewart, on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, requested that some of the boulevard stop signs on H. Street be ellm(nated in order to encourage more travel on H. Street by Rohr employees. It was moved by Councilman Hohel, seconded by Councilm-n DeWolfe, and carried, that City Attorney Boyer be instructed to prepare a resolution making H. Street a Boulevard from National Avenue to First Avenue, with stops at Third Avenue. SUBDIVISION STI~-~ SIGNS Mr. Walter Davis, Secretary Chamber of Commerce, asked if something could not be done to require subdividers to erect temporary street signs in their subdivisions prior to the erecting of the permanent signs. It was moved by Councilman DeWolfe, seconded by Councilm-u Hobel, and carried, that as a matter of policy the signing of subdivision maps be delayed until money is deposited with the City for the purchase of the needed street signs. ORDINANCE No. 4?2 - Trailer Courts - second reading and adoption It was moved by Councilm~n DeWolfe, seconded by Councilman Halferty, and carried, that Ordinance No. 472 be placed on its second reading. After the reading of the title, it was moved by Councilm~n Hobel, seconded by Councilman Riesland, and carried, that the reading of the text be waived. The Ordinance was thereupon adopted by the following vote, to-wits AYES: Councilmen Hobel, Riesland, DeWolfe, Halferty, Logan Noes: None Absent: Councilmen None RESOLUTION No. 1428 - Acceptance of Smith-Algert Sewer E~sement Offered by Councilman Riesland, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Hobel, Riesland, DeWolfe, Halferty, Logan Noes ~ None Absent: Councilmen None RESOLUTION No. 1429 - Acceptance of Glen-Hargrove Sewer Easement Offered by Councilman Halferty, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Hobel, Riesland, DeWolfe, Halferty, Logan Noes: None Absent: Councilmen None ~BLIND INTERSECTION AT THIRD AVENUT AND K. STREET Councilman Halferty asked what action the Council could take in eliminating the blind intersection condition at Third Avenue and K. Street caused by the boxcars on the railroad siding. It was suggested that Chief A~mtnistrative Officer Bryant and City Engineer Floyd contact the railroad officials and e~mtuate the ha~a~dJ REPORT ON SACRAMENTO TRIP - City planner Wagner City Planner Wagner took this time to thank the Council for the opportunity of taking the good-will trip to Sacra,~uto and discussed briefly the accomplishments of the trip. /~PAYMENT OF BILL FOR TRAFFIC SCOP~BOARD AUTHORIZED It was moved by Councilman DeWolfe, seconded by Conncilm~n Riesland, and carried, that Chief Administrative Officer Bryant be authorized to pay Dan Putnam the sum of $68.50 for a traffic scoreboard sign to he used by the Chula Vista Traffic Safety Committee. The motion carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Hobel, Riesland, DeWolfe, Halferty, Logan Noes: Nons Absent: Counc~m~n None PARK BOWL SOUNN ~UIPMENT REPAIRS AUTHORIZED Chief Administrative Officer Bryant asked authorization to engage Communica- tions Incorporated to repair the sound equipment ruined by vandals in the Park Bowl. The total cost of said repairs to be $695.00 It was moved by Councilm~n Riesland, seconded by Conncilm~n Hobel, and carried, that Chief Administrative Officer Bryant be authorized to hire Communications Incorporated, as requested, for the sram of $695.00 COMMUNICATIONS A letter was read from Victor Wulff, Jr., City Planning Commission Member, asking not to be reappointed at the expiration of his term, July 1, 1953. It was moved by Gounci!m~n Riesland, seconded by Councilm~n Hobel, and carried, that the meeting adjourn to Tuesday,.April 28, 1953 at 7:00 P.M City of Chula Vista, California
