HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1953/06/10MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF Chula Vista, California Held Wednesday -- June 10, 1953 The Council mot in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 3:00 P.M on the above date, with the following Counc~lm~n present: Councilmen: DeWolfe, Riesland, Logan Absent: Councilmen Hobel, Halferty Also present: Chief Administrative Officer Bryant, City Engineer Floyd, and City Planner Wagner ---/~SwIMMING POOL COMMITTEE ARCHITECT REPORT The Council met with the Swimming Pool Committee and went over the initial tentative plans of the swimming pool, as presented by the architects. The plans met with the approval of the Council, although the estimated cost was much greater than the Bond issue. The plan was so designed that the original plan could be built now, with added features being built later at a minimum of cost. The architects were told to continue along the lines as originally planned, with the possibility of raising additional funds through public subscription for the added features. It was agreed to make a further study of the plans before the next moeting. CHURCH OF LATTER DAY SAINTS - Street Dedication The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints offered a written Dedication of a portion of Corte Maria Avenue, adjacent to its new Church. It was moved by Councilman Riesland, seconded by Councilman DeWolfe, and unanimously carried that the City of Chula Vista will accept said Dedication when the proposed street has been improved according to the street improvement specifications of the City, and to the satisfaction of the City Engineer, or when adequate security for said improvements has been posted. PURCHASE OF CHEVROLETS FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT AUTHORIZED Chief Administrative Officer Bryant read a proposal from the City Chevrolet Company to furnish six 1953 Chevrolets for the Police Department, and to enter into an agreen~nt with City Chevrolet for servicing same at l~ cent per mile, and to exchange for new cars at the end of 45,000 miles, or one year, whever comos first. It waa moved by Councilman DeV~olfe, seconded by Councilman Logan, and carried, that purchase of the six cars be authorized upon presentation of a formal agreement signed by the City Chevrolet Company. CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION CHANGES Upon recommendation of the Civil Service Co~ission, it was moved by CouncilmanDeWolfe, secom~ed by Councilman Logan, and carried, that the City adopt the classification and compensation plan for classified.service for the fiscal year 1953-1954, and that Section 12 of Rule 2 of the Civil Service rules be amended by deleting class titles of Lead Mechanic and Mechanic, by adding the title of Mechanic 2 as Class No. H-? at salary range 20, and Mechanic 1 as Class No. H-9 at salary range 18. Also that Rule 2 of Civil Service Rules be further amended by deleting Class of Juvenile Officer, and that if, and when, Patrolmen are assigned to Juvenile work, they be compensated with an additional $10.OO per month. ~ POLICW~N AND FIREMAN AUTHORIZED It was moved by Councilw~n Logan, seconded by Councilman DeWol~e, and carried, that Chief Administrative Officer Bryant be authorized to include in the new Budget for 1953-1954 fiwe additional Policemen, as requested, and one additional Fireman. REQUEST FOR FULL TIME RECREATION DIRECTOR AND SECRETARY Chief Administrative Officer Bryant presented a request from the Recreation Commission for a full time Assistant Recreation Director and a full time Secretary. It was moved by Councilman Logan, seconded by Counci~manDeWolfe, and carried, that the request be denied. RESOLUTION No. 1439 - Approving Agreement for County pound Services-1953-1954 Offered byCouncilman DeWolfe, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilm-n Riesland, DeWolfe, Logan Noes: None Absent: Councilmen Hobel, Halferty ADJObPJ~NT It was moved by Councilman Logan, seconded by Councilman DeWolfe, and carried, that the meeting adjourn until June 16, 1953 at 3:00 P.M.
