HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1961/10/17 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF Chula Vista, California Held Tuesday October 17, 1961 An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista was held at 7:00 PoMo on the above date, with the following Councilmen present: Councilmen McMains, McAllister, Menzel, Smith, DeGraaf Absent: None STATEMENT: The City Clerk hereby states that he did post within 24 hours of adjournment, as provided by law, the order of adjournment of the City Council for the adjourned regular meeting of October 17, 1961. The meeting opened with the playing by the Chula Vista High School Band of our National Anthem, and the Mexican National Anthem. Reverend Earle Creamer gave the invocation, MINUTES The Minutes for the Council meeting of November 28, 1911 were read to the Council. REENACTMENT OF PRESENTATION OF INCORPORATION PAPERS In the reenactment of a 1911 scene when the City was incorporated, former Judge Lowell Howe presented the papers of incorporation, accepted by Mayor Menzet. ACCEPTANCE OF CHULA VISTA AS SISTER CITY Spencer Menzel, Sister City Commission member, read a letter and Resolution from the Mayor of General Roca, Argentina, officially accepting the City of Chula Vista as their Sister City. GREETINGS FROM MEXICO Mayor Menzel called upon the Governor of Baja California and the Mayor of TiJuana, who extended congratulations to the City, on its fiftieth anniversary as an incorporated City. TELEGRAMS OF CONGRATULATION The Clerk read telegrams from Edmund G. Brown, Governor of the State of California, Bob Wilson, Member of Congress, Thomas Kuchel, United States Senator, Assemblyman James R. Mills and Jose Gadano, Mayor of General Roca, Argentina, all congratulating the City on the anniversary of its fifty years as an incorporated City. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Brief remarks on the City's ~0th anniversary were made by Arthur Lynds, General Chairman of the Anniversary Celebration, Senator Hugo Fisher, Assemblyman Jack Schrade, C. R. Campbell, President of the Chamber of Commerce, San Diego Vice Mayor Frank Curran, Supervisor Dave Bird, Joseph Rindone, Supt. of Sweetwater High School District, Dr. Burton Tiffany, Supt. of Chula Vista Elementary School District, Administrative Officer Fulwiler, and each of the Councilmen. ADJOURNMENT Mayor Menzel Adjourned the meeting until October 31, 1961 at 7:00 P.M. BENEDICTION Reverend Earle Creamer gave the benediction. ~.~City clerk
