5.3 Discussion and Possible Action Regarding A Community Survey
Including Potential Questions and Outreach Plan
Commissioner Lake introduced the item beginning with the potential
questions and distribution of survey and discussion ensued.
Further discussion and questionnaire development will occur among the
established ad-hoc subcommittee and a draft will be presented to the full
Commission at their next meeting on August 25, 2022.
5.4 Discussion and Updates From Ad-Hoc Subcommittees
Chair Branch shared an update on the Technology and Privacy Advisory
Task Force on which she represented the Human Relations Commission.
Commissioner Lake shared an update on the status of the AAPI ad -hoc
subcommittee.
OTHER BUSINESS
6. STAFF COMMENTS
Secretary Hernandez shared efforts to engage with a local nonprofit to bring a
presentation to the next meeting of the Human Relations Commission regarding
employment barriers to the LGBTQ community.
7. CHAIR'S COMMENTS
Chair Branch thanked the Commission for their support for her continuing to
Chair the Commission and requested the attendance of the Chula Vista Police
Department at the next meeting of the Commission to discuss the issues
surrounding a CBS8 story regarding use of force.
8. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner Godinez inquired about National Night Out and the Commission's
involvement.

Commissioner Medina requested to add to the Chair's previous request,
information regarding the specific trainings on cultural competency provided to
the Chula Vista Police Department and any data available concerning the
effectiveness of those trainings.

The City has 22 Boards and Commissions composed of volunteer community members that
advise City Council on a variety of matters (e.g., Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation
Commission, etc.). The Human Relations Commission (HRC) seeks your input on equity and
inclusion issues in Chula Vista communities.

Commissioner Lake introduced the item beginning with the potential
questions and distribution of survey and discussion ensued.
Further discussion and questionnaire development will occur among the
established ad-hoc subcommittee and a draft will be presented to the full
Commission at their next meeting on August 25, 2022.

Secretary Hernandez shared efforts to engage with a local nonprofit to bring a
presentation to the next meeting of the Human Relations Commission regarding
employment barriers to the LGBTQ community.

Chair Branch thanked the Commission for their support for her continuing to
Chair the Commission and requested the attendance of the Chula Vista Police
Department at the next meeting of the Commission to discuss the issues
surrounding a CBS8 story regarding use of force.

involvement.
