HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2022-168 DocuSign Envelope ID: E5925959-9574-4277-8AB4-DD9F97F4FB16 RESOLUTION NO. 2022-168 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE BOARD OF STATE COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS FOR THE CALIFORNIA VIOLENCE INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION GRANT PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista desires to participate in the California Violence Intervention and Prevention(CaIVIP) Grant Program funded by the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC); and WHEREAS, on June 9, 2022 the Police Department received notice from BSCC of a $1,728,456 competitive award of the California Violence Intervention and Prevention (CaIVIP) Grant, which improves public health and safety by supporting effective violence initiatives in communities that are disproportionately impacted by violence, which the City applied for in February 2022; and WHEREAS, CaIVIP grants are used to support, expand, and replicate evidence-based violence reduction initiatives, including, without limitation, hospital-based violence intervention programs, evidence-based street outreach programs, and focused deterrence strategies, that seek to interrupt cycles of violence and retaliation in order to reduce the incidence of homicides, shootings, and aggravated assaults; and WHEREAS, the California Violence intervention and Prevention (CaIVIP) Grant covers a three-year project period of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2025, along with a six-month period of July 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 to complete a Final Local Evaluation Report; and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista agrees that grant funds received pursuant to Agreement Number BSCC 808-22 shall not be used to supplant expenditures controlled by the City Council; and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista agrees to abide by the terms and conditions of the Grant Agreement Number BSCC 808-22 as set forth by the BSCC. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista that it approves Agreement Number BSCC 808-22 between the City of Chula Vista and Board of State and Community Corrections, including any amendments thereof, in the form presented, with such minor modifications as may be required or approved by the City Attorney, a copy of which shall be kept on file in the Office of the City Clerk, and authorizes and directs the Chief of Police to execute same.
