HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1953/12/31m MINUTES OF A REGULAR ADJOtPJt-ED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, California Held Thursday December 31, 1953 The Council w~A in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 3:00 P.M on the above date, with the following Councilmen present: Councilmen Riesland, Hobel, Halferty, Logan Absent: Councilm~n DeWolfe Also present: City Attorney Boyer, City Administrator Floyd, City Finance Officer Grant, City Planner ~¥agner b/TIDELANDS DISCUSSION City Attorney Boyer made a report on the status of the City in the tideland annexation proceedings to date, and stated the tidelands description as presented to the Boundary Commission on December 10th was deemed to be correct because of the passage of twenty days since its submission. He also reported that the engineer, of the Commission had approved the form of the description. He then recom~ended that the Counoil adopt a resolution of intention to aunex. RESOLUTION No. 1494 - Giving notice of proposed annexation of "Chula Vista Tidelands" Offered by Council,mn Riesland, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote to-wit: AYe: Counci/men Riesland, Hobel, Halferty, Logan Noes: None Absent: Councilman DeWolfe Mayor DeWolfe arrived at this time, and the meeting proceeded with Mayor DeWolfe p~esiding. APPOI~UMENT OF NEW CITY ATTOrnEY Attorney Merideth Campbell was introduced to the Council as prospective applicant for the position of City Attorney to replace City Attorney Boyer, who resigned. In answer to questioning, Mr. Campbell indicated his willingness to spend some time each week at an office to be provided in the City Hall. It was moved by Councilman Riesla3~, seconded by Councilman Hobel, and carried, that the City engage Attorney Campbell as City Attorney at a salary of $500.00 per month, starting January 1, 1954o ' It was moved by Councilman Hobel, seconded by Councilman Halferty, and carried, that City Attorney Boyer be appointed special assistant to the new City Attorney for one month at a salary of $500.00. The motion carried by the followin~ vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Riesland, Itobel, Halferty, Logan, DeWolfe Noes: None Absent: None FIRE AND POLICE STAkU)iRDIZATION DISCUSSION Roy Borchers, representative of the Chula Vista Fire and Police Association, read a letter from the association outlining the ~mequities that exist between the salaries of the Fire and Police departments of Chula Vista and San Diego, and proposing an ordinance that would standardize the salaries of the two cities. Mr. Borcher explained that copies of the proposed ordinance would be ready for distribution in a few days. The Council postponed action until the next regular meeting, in order to have time to study the ordinance and financial aspects. Cgunci~n Logan asked to be excused at this time, and left the meeting. ~ RoHR TIDE;ANDS LEASE A letter was read from the Rohr Aircraft Corporation requesting a lease of the City owned tidelands lying west of their property to facilitate future expansion of the plant. It was moved by Councilman Halferty, seconded by Councilman Riesland and carried, that a lease be prepared and presented, and the City Attorney directed to negotiate and prepare such ~ lease for presentation° The motion carried by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Riosland, Hal~erty, DeWolfe Noes: None Absent: Councilman Logan CounciLman Hobel abstained from voting because of his association with Rohr Aircraft Corporation RESOLUTION No. 1495 - Dedication of Hoy drainage easement Offered by Councilman Riesland, read in full, passed adopted and approved by the following vote, AYES: Councilmen Riesland, Halferty, Hobel, DeWolfe Noes: None Absent: Councilman Logan RESOLUTION No. 1496 - Dedication of Derthick drainage easement Offered by CounciLman Hobel, read in full, passed adopted and approved by the following vote to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Riesland, Halferty, Hobel, DeWolfe Noes: None Absent: Counci~ m~n Logan ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Councilm~n Riesland, seconded by Councilman Halferty, and carried, that the meeting adjourn sine die.
