Subject:7/28/22 Committee Comment Sons of Italy Seat
Dear Committee Members,
In connection with the nomination of Salvatore Denaro on behalf of the Sons & Daughters of Italy for the Columbus
Statue Task Force, I would like to provide some background to the extent it is relevant to your decision making. I write as
a current Board Member for the Sons & Daughters of Italy on behalf of our group.
Sal is a second generation Italian-American who was born and raised in San Diego by parents from New York. He has
been involved in Italian organizations most of his life, including serving four years as the President on the Sons &
Daughters of Italy Lodge in Encinitas before his Presidency of the San Diego Lodge. He is the immediate Past President
and has the respect of the elected officials for the Grand Lodge of California. Sal is a retired school district employee
who has been following the Columbus Statue progress. He attended the City Council meeting when the vote for the task
force was initially decided and has remained engaged in working on possible solutions for the statue's transition.
It is our hope that Sal's deserving nomination be accepted and he be placed in the vacated seat allocated to our group.
Thank you,
Eve Mazzarella
