HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-08-09 CAC Minutes m IOU CIIYO, STA F A HU� Y T REGULAR MEETING OF THE CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Meeting Minutes August 9, 2021, 6:00 p.m. Virtual, Via Teleconference Present: Commissioner Bishop, Commissioner Kohse, Commissioner Maynard (left at 7:32 p.m.), Commissioner Redondo, Commissioner Rodriguez (arrived at 6:40 p.m.), Commissioner Ward (left at 7:34 p.m.), Chair Gray Absent: Commissioner Roberts Also Present: Principal Librarian Magbanua Pursuant to the Governor of the State of California's Executive Order N-29-20, and in the interest of public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Cultural Arts Commission and staff participated in this meeting via teleconference. All votes were taken by roll call. 1. CALL TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 6:05 p.m. via teleconference. 2. ROLL CALL Secretary Magbanua called the roll. 3. CONSENT CALENDAR (Items 3.1 through 3.2) Commission voted to approve the Consent Calendar. 1 Moved by Commissioner Bishop Seconded by Commissioner Kohse Commission approve the Consent Calendar. Yes (6): Chair Gray, Commissioner Bishop, Commissioner Kohse, Commissioner Maynard, Commissioner Redondo, and Commissioner Ward Absent (2): Commissioner Roberts and Commissioner Rodriguez Carried (6 to 0) 3.1 Approval of Meeting Minutes for May 10, 2021 Commission approve the minutes. 3.2 Written Communications Commission excuse the absences. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS Chair Gray called for a two-minute pause to allow members of the public to submit electronic comments on the item. Secretary Magbanua announced that 0 electronic comments had been received and 0 comments had been received via email. 5. PRESENTATIONS 5.1 Presentation by San Diego Ballet on Programming Opportunities in Chula Vista San Diego Ballet presented their history of partnerships and programming in Chula Vista and their program offerings for future collaborations. 5.2 Presentation by Southwest Strategies, Outreach Consultant to the Redistricting Commission, on Chula Vista Redistricting Efforts Susana Villegas from Southwest Strategies presented on the current outreach and community feedback plans for the resdistricting efforts of the City. 5.3 Commission Recognition of the 2019 McCandliss Art Awards Recipients Principal Librarian Erwin Magbanua presented on the 2019 McCandliss Art Award recipients. 2 6. ACTION ITEMS 6.1 Election of Chair for FY 2021-22 Commission voted to elect Chair Gray as Chair for FY 2021-22. Moved by Commissioner Kohse Seconded by Commissioner Ward Commission elect Chair for FY 2021-22. Yes (7): Chair Gray, Commissioner Bishop, Commissioner Kohse, Commissioner Maynard, Commissioner Redondo, Commissioner Rodriguez and Commissioner Ward Carried (7 to 0) 6.2 Election of Vice-Chair for FY 2021-22 Commission voted to elect Commissioner Rodriguez as Vice-Chair for FY 2021-22. Moved by Commissioner Bishop Seconded by Commissioner Kohse Commission elect Vice-Chair for FY 2021-22. Yes (7): Chair Gray, Commissioner Bishop, Commissioner Kohse, Commissioner Maynard, Commissioner Redondo, Commissioner Rodriguez and Commissioner Ward Carried (7 to 0) 6.3 Discussion Regarding Fiscal Years 2019-20 and 2020-21 Annual Reports of Activities and Authorize the Chair to Work with Staff to Finalize and Submit Commission voted to authorize the Chair to work with staff to finalize and submit the annual report of activities. Moved by Commissioner Kohse Seconded by Commissioner Bishop Commission discuss activities and authorize the Chair to work with staff to finalize and submit. 3 Yes (7): Chair Gray, Commissioner Bishop, Commissioner Kohse, Commissioner Maynard, Commissioner Redondo and Commissioner Ward Carried (6 to 0) 6.4 Select Commissioners for the Christopher Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force Commission voted to select Commissioner Kohse and Commissioner Maynard as representatives on the Human Relations Commission's Christopher Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force. Moved by Commissioner Rodriguez Seconded by Commissioner Redondo Commission select two Commissioners as representatives on the Human Relations Commission's Christopher Columbus Statue and Discovery Park Task Force. Yes (5): Chair Gray, Commissioner Bishop, Commissioner Kohse, Commissioner Redondo and Commissioner Rodriguez Carried (5 to 0) OTHER BUSINESS 7. STAFF COMMENTS Principal Librarian Erwin Magbanua shared information about upcoming subcommittee meetings, the 49th Annual Boards & Commissions event on August 19, 2021, South and East County Arts Network updates, and upcoming potential arts funding. 8. CHAIR'S COMMENTS None. 9. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS Commissioner Bishop shared that Arts Curation subcommittee is still interested in having a virtual online gallery of artwork from Chula Vista Elementary School District students on the City's webpages. 10.
