HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1958/04/22 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF Chula Vista, California Held Tuesday April 22, 1958 The Council met in the Council Chambers at the City Hall on the above date at 7:00 P.M. with the following Councilmen present: Councilmen: McAllister, Smith, Menzel, DeGraaf, McMains Absent: None Also present: City Engineer Floyd, City Administrator Fulwiler, City Attorney Kugler, Planning Secretary Stonehouse Mayor Menzel led the salute to the Flag and asked for a moment of silent prayer° RESOLUTION NOo 2047-Giving notice of proposed Industrial Lands Annexation Offered by Councilman DeGraaf, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen DeGraaf, McMains, McAllister, Smith, Menzel Noes: None Absent: None RESOLUTION No. 2048-Approving agreement for removal of Palm trees on Broadway Offered by Councilman Smith, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Smith, Menzel, DeGraaf, McMains, McAllister Noes: None Absent: None PLANNING CONSULTANT It was suggested that the matter of hiring a Planning Consultant be discussed at an executive session of the Council, along with other personnel matters. Mayor Menzel set Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00 P.M. as the time for the meeting. RESOLUTION No. 2049-Approving allowance for Mayor Menzel Offered by Councilman Smith, read in full, passed, adopted and approved by the following vo~e, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Smith, ~enzel, DeGraaf, McMains, McAllister Noes: None Absent: None ~ETITION REGISTERING PROTEST- Against raising a portion of "E" Street A petition was read from property owners on "E" Street between Minor and Second Avenues protesting a report that the City planned on raising the level of "E" Street between Minor Avenue and Second Avenue. Mr. Menelaos Pappas stated he and other~esidents in the area planned on installing curbs and sidewalks, but were told they could not do so because of a proposal to raise the level of "E" Street three feet. Mr. & Mrs. L. D. Cartledge at 185 "E- Street protested a six foot cut in front of their place. Mr. Joseph Lareau at 174 "E" Street requested that dirt dumped in front of his property be removed. The City Engineer was directed to look into this request. It was moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman DeGraaf, and carried, that property owners on "E" Street between First and Second Avenues be allowed to proceed with the installation of curbs and sidewalks at the present existing grade. ~EQUEST TO DUMP SURPLUS DREDGE MATERIAL ON CITY TIDELANDS A request was made by Frank DeVote, San Diego Gas & Electric Company Engineer that the Gas Company be allowed to deposit their surplus dredge material on Chula Vista Tidelands between the Mean High Tide Line and the Pierhead Line, northerly of the Company's Tidelands Lease, and South of the City Sewer outfall channel, at no expense to the City. It was moved by Councilman McAllister, seconded by Councilman Smith, and carried, that the proposal of the Gas Company be accepted. ~Z~NING OF PROPOSED INDUSTRIAL LANDS ANNEXATION Mr. Gabriel Berg asked the Council for some assurance that the proposed Industrial Lands Annexation would be zoned M-2 upon completion of the annexation. City Attorney Kugler stated the Council could not commit itself, but the Council generally agreed that M-2 would be the proper zoning for the area. Councilman McMains stated, upon direct question by Mr. Berg, that he would be in favor of the M-2 zone° ~'REQUEST APPLICATION TO MOVE ROUSES An application was submitted from William M. Johnston to move two houses now located on Garrett Avenue in the 500 block to Guava Avenue in the 600 block. It was moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman McMains, and carried, that the application be approved, subject to compliance with all existing ordinances, and working through the Building Department. ~APPLICATION FOR AUCTIONEER LICENSE Arnold G. Fischer, of the Fischer Auction Company submitted an application for an auction license, Class A and B in the City. It was moved by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilman DeGraaf, and carried, that the application be referred to the Police Dept. for investigation, as per ordinance.
