OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA
Held Thursday May 18, 1967
An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista was held at 10:00 A.M., on the above date with the following Councilmen
present: Councilmen Sylvester, Anderson, McCorquodale, McAllister, Sparling
Absent: None
Also present: Chief Administrative Officer Ross, Assistant Administrative
Officer Stenberg, Administrative Assistant Sullins, Personnel
Officer Foss, Finance Officer Grant, Fire Chief Lee
BUDGET SESSION - Salary recommendations
After salary recormnendations were presented by Administrative Officer
Ross, the Council began its review of the proposed recon~mendations for the
1967-1968 budget and minute action was taken in the following sequence:
(1) It was moved by Mayor McCorquodale, seconded by Councilman Sparling,
and unanimously carried that the following percentage pay increases be granted
as indicated for the classifications listed in category No. t:
Library Clerk - 5%
Library Aid - 5%
City Clerk - 10%
Secretary - 5%
Technical Services Clerk - 5%
Clerk III - 5%
Clerk II - 5%
Clerk I - 5%
Equipment Mechanic - 5%
Power Equipment Operator - 5%
Lifeguard - 2~/o
Locker Room Attendant - 2~%
(2) It was moved by Councilman Sparling, seconded by Councilman Anderson,
that the Fire Chief be granted a 7~% increase in pay. Subsequently, it was
moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman McAllister, that the origi-
nal motion be amended to grant a 7½% increase in pay to the Assistant Administra-
tive Officer, the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Personnel Officer.
This amendment to the original motion was unanimously carried and, thereafter,
the original motion was adopted by a unanimous vote.
(3) It was moved by Councilman McAllister, seconded by Councilman Ander-
son, and unanimously carried that the classification of Fireman be granted a 7½%
increase in pay.
(4) It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman McAllis-
ter, and unanimously carried that the classifications of Fire Engineer and Fire
Captain be granted a 7%7° increase in pay.
(5) It was moved by Councilman Sylvester, seconded by Councilman McAllis-
ter, and unanimously carried that the classification of Legal Secretary be granted
a 7%% increase in pay.
(6) It was moved by Councilman Sparling, seconded by Councilman McAllis-
ter, and unanimously carried that the following classifications included in
category No. 2
be granted a 5% increase in pay:
Senior Building Inspector
Assistant Building Inspector
Housing Inspector
Custodian
Administrative Assistant
Library Assistant
Parking Meter Serviceman
Groundsman-Gardener
Associate Planner
Assistant Planner
Junior Planner
Planning Draftsman
Patrolman
Laboratory Technician
Assistant City Engineer

(7) It was moved by Councilman McAllister, seconded by Councilman Spar-
ling, and unanimously carried that the following classifications included in
category No. 3 be granted a 747° salary increase in pay:
Assistant Fire Chief
Librarian II
Librarian I
Principal Recreation Supervisor
Recreation Supervisor
Senior Lifeguard
Recreation Leader
Director of Planming
Chief of Police
Police Captain
Police Lieutenant
Police Sergeant

(8) It was moved by Councilman McAllister, seconded by Councilman Spar-
ling~ and unanimously carried that the following classifications included in
category No. 4 be granted a 1~4 increase in salary:
Greenskeeper Foreman Traffic Devices Technician
Park Foreman Chief of Building and Housing
General Foreman
(9) It was moved by Councilman Sparling, seconded by Councilman Sylves-
ter, and unanimously carried that the unclassified position of Finance Officer
be granted a 7~7o increase in salary.
(10) It was moved by Councilman Sparling, seconded by Councilman Sylves-
ter, and unanimously carried that the unclassified position of Executive Secre-
tary be granted a 747° increase in salary.
(11) It was moved by Mayor McCorquodale, seconded by Councilman Spar-
ling~ and unanimously carried that the unclassified position of Librarian be
granted a I~A increase in salary.
(12) It was moved by Mayor McCorquodale, seconded by Councilman Spar-
ling, and unanimously carried that the unclassified ~sition of City Attorney
be granted a 747° increase in salary.
(13) It was moved by Mayor McCorquodale, seconded by Councilman Sylves-
ter, and unanimously carried that the unclassified position of Chief Adminis-
trative Officer be granted a 747° increase in salary.
(14) It was moved by Councilman Sparling, seconded by Councilman Mc-
Allister, and unanimously carried that the part-time position of License In-
spector be granted a 15¢ per hour increase in pay from $2.35 an hour to $2.50
an hour.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Tuesday May 23,
1967.
