At one point in January, there were over 1,800 COVID-19 hospitalizations. Before the Delta variant was the dominant strain, we were below 100 new cases per day 5 Cases, Deaths, Outbreaks 6 The number of cases, average daily cases, and deaths all increased from the previous week. 7 Testing positivity percentage is 8.5% which is above the County threshold and meets the CDCs definition of substantial transmission Community Transmission 8 Testing positivity is substantial transmission and the San Diego County weekly case rate is High Transmission Chula Vista Case Rates 9 If we were operating in the old Blueprint Framework with the colored tiered system, then the entire San Diego County would be in the purple tier. The amount of community spread is significant. This virus is spreading very easily. Layers Are Effective 10 No single strategy is perfect.
