HomeMy WebLinkAboutcc min 1965/03/02 MINUTES OF AN ADJOURNED I{EGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA Held Tuesday March 2, 1965 An adjourned regular meeting was held in the Council Chambers by the City Council on the above date at 7:00 P.M. with the following Councilmen present: Councilmen McMains, McAllister~ Sparling, McCorquodale~ Anderson Absent: None Also present: City Engineer Cole, City Attorney Lindberg, Administrative Officer Ross, Director of Planning Warren, Assistant Adminis- trative Officer Stenberg, Finance Officer Grant, Personnel Officer Foss Mayor Sparling led the pledge of allegiance to the Flag. Invocation by Dr. Earl Kernahan of the First Methodist Church. Statement: The City Clerk hereby states that he did post within twenty-four hours of adjournment, as provided by law: the order of adjourn- ment of the adjourned regular meeting of March 2, 1965. Gustafson - Car-wash Offered by Councilman Anderson, passed and adopted by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen Anderson, McMains, McAllister, Sparling, McCorquodale Noes: None Absent: None RESOLUTION NO. 3653 - Approving and adopting amendments to Rule II of the Civil Service Rules Offered by Councilman McCorquodale, passed and adopted by the following vote~ to-wit: AYES: Councilmen McCorquodale~ Anderson~ McMains, McAllister, Sparling Noes: None Absent: None RESOLUTION NO. 3654 - Approving agreement for appraisal of City Property for insurance purposes Offered by Councilman McAllister~ passed and adopted by the following vote~ to-wit: AYES: Councilmen McAllister, Sparling, McCorquodale, Anderson, McMains Noes: None Absent: None BID RECEIVED ON LAWN BOWLING GREEN City Engineer Cole stated that only one bid has been received for instal- lation of a lawn bowling green in Eucalyptus Park. The bid was from Jack W. Brem Company in the amount of $35,677.00. Councilman McAllister suggested that cities outside the County be contacted to determine ways and means under which lawn bowling alleys have beem installed in their areas. It was moved by Councilman McAllister, seconded by Councilman McCorquo- dale, and carried that the bid be rejected and the matter referred back to Administrative Officer Ross for study with the intent of bringing the cost more in line with the amount budgeted. OTIFICATION TO MOTORISTS OF CROSSWALK SUGGESTED Mayor Sparling suggested that motorists be given warning that they are approaching a pedestrian crosswalk at Fourth Avenue and "D" Street by painting the word "Crosswalk" on Fourth Avenue. SAFETY COUNCIL RECOMMENDATIONS A letter was read from the Safety Council recormnending that a stop sign be installed at Hilltop Drive and Rienstra Street~ that a crosswalk be in- stalled across East "J" Street on the west side of Claire Avenue and that Palomar Street between Third and Hilltop be made a through street with speed limit of 35 miles per hour. Referred to Administrative Officer Ross for action at a later meeting. A letter was read from the Safety Council recommending that sidewalks be installed on the south side of "I" Street between First Avenue and Corte Maria under provisions of the 1911 Act. Pending this action, the Safety Council recommended that the area be graded to accormnodate school children. Referred to Administrative Officer Ross for study. ~TELEGRAM - Highway Engineer State A telegram was read from State Highway Engineer J. C. Womack, advising the Council of the intention of the California Highway Commission to consider the adoption of a freeway routing between Route 5 near Sweetwater River and 0.4 miles east of Route 805. The telegram stated an explanatory letter would follow. It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman McAllister, and carried that the Council go on record and so advise the Highway Department that no further public hearings are necessary on the proposed freeway route as far as the City of Chula Vista is concerned.
