OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TBE
CITY OF CHULA VISTA~ CALIFORNIA
Held Tuesday March 23, 1965
An adjourned regular meeting was held in the Council Chambers by the
City Council on the above date at 7:00 P.M. with the following Councilmen
present: Councilmen McMains, McAllister, Sparling, McCorquodale, Anderson
Absent: None
Also present: City Engineer Cole, City Attorney Lindberg, Administrative
Officer Ross, Director of Planning Warren, Assistant Adminis-
trative Officer Stenberg
Mayor Sparling led the pledge of allegiance to the Flag.
Invocation by Rev. Ken L. Pagard of the First Baptist Church
Statement: The City Clerk hereby states that he did post within twenty-four
hours of adjournment~ as provided by law, the order of adjourn-
ment of the adjourned regular meeting of March 23, 1965.
~'/AcTION ON APPEAL OF BOLLENBACRER AND KELTON H~LD OVER
Administrative Officer Ross stated that the firm of Bollenbacher and
Relton~ having indicated they do not at this time have the information per-
taining to the number of dwellings of less than 1200 square feet they plan
to build in the immediate future in Southwestern College Estates, are now
requesting that the matter be continued until the meeting of April 6, 1965.
It was moved by Councilman McAllister, seconded by Councilman Anderson,
and carried that the request be granted.
ORDINANCE NO. 926 - Approving Greg Rogers Park Annexation - Second reading
It was moved by Councilman McMains, seconded by Councilman Anderson,
and carried that Ordinance No. 926 be placed on its second reading, that
reading of the text be waived and the ordinance adopted. The motion carried
by the following vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen McMains~ McAllister, Sparling, McCorquodale, Anderson
Noes: None
Absent: None
RESOLUTION NO. 3661 - Approving agreement with County for purchase of tax-
deeded property
Offered by Councilman McAllister, passed and adopted by the following
vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen McAllister, Sparling~ McCorquodale, Anderson, McMains
Noes: None
Absent: None
RESOLUTION NO. 3662 - Extending extension of completion time on improvements -
Southwestern College Estates
Offered by Councilman McAllister, passed and adopted by the following
vote~ to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen McAllister, Sparling, McCorquodale, Anderson, McMains
Noes: None
Absent: None
RESOLUTION NO. 3663 - Approving agreement for maintenance of State highways
in the City
Offered by Councilman McCorquodale, passed and adopted by the follow-
ing vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen McCorquodale, Anderson, McMains, McAllister, Sparling
Noes: None
Absent: None
~,/~PPOINTMENT OF MEMBER TO PLANNING COMMISSION HElD OVER
Councilman McAilister nominated John A. Macevicz for appointment to
the Planning Cormnission. It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by
Councilman McMains~ and carried that appointment of a member to the Planning
Cormnission be held off until the meeting of April 6.
~/~ENDMENT TO BROWN ACT OPPOSED
Upon the suggestion of Councilman McMains, it was moved by Councilman
McAllister, seconded by Councilman McMains, and carried that the City Attorney
be directed to communicate with the proper authorities and reiterate the
Council's stand of opposition to the proposed amendment to the Brown Act.
/~UPPORT OF PROPOSED COUNTY ORDINANC~REQUIRING FENCING AROUND SWIMMING POOLS
SUGGESTED
Councilman Anderson suggested that the Council support a proposed
County ordinance which would require the fencing of swirmning pools in the
County area. Administrative Officer Ross was directed to obtain copies of
the proposed ordinance for distribution to the Council for study.
f/~EqUEST FOR USE OF CITY PROPERTY FOR FIESTA
A letter was read from Jack Sylvester, General Chairman of the Fiesta
de la Luna, requesting the use of the City's portion of the former "F" Street
School site for use for the Fiesta Carnival and exhibit tent on July 7 through
July 11, 1965. Also requested was $1,800.00 to promote the parade, half to
be forwarded now and the rest at the close of the Fiesta. Referred to Admin-
istrative Officer Ross.
~//REqUEST FOR WAIVER OF CIRCUS FEES
A letter was read from the 20-30 Club of National City-Chula Vista
requesting that all fees be waived on a proposed circus to be sponsored by
the club on April 2. Circus to be held at 980 "F" Street on Shangri-La park-
ing lot with the club receiving fifty-one percent of the net proceeds. Re-
ferred to Administrative Officer Ross.
LETTER OF APPRECIATION
A letter was read from Manuel L. Kugler expressing appreciation to
the Council, Administrative Officer Ross and Assistant Administrative Officer
Stenberg for their cooperation with the Chula Vista Rotary Club in connection
with its Youth in Government project.
INVITATION TO LITTLE LEAGUE OPENING CEREMONIES
An invitation was read from the South Bay Little League inviting Coun-
cilmen to opening day ceremonies to be held April 24, at 11:00 A.M., at
Rienstra Sky Line Dairy Ravine, 1500 Max Avenue. The Clerk was directed to
forward the invitation to Mrs. Calvert for attention of the Mayor.
FIELD TRIP ON "H" STREET EXTENSION FEASIBILITY STUDY
Administrative Officer Ross suggested that any Councilmen interested
in making a field trip to the site of the proposed "H" Street extension make
arrangements with the City Engineer between March 24 and March 30.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Sparling adjourned the meeting at 7:30 P.M. until April 6 at
7:00 P.M.
