RE: Update on San Diego Community Power
Date: June 8, 2020
Good Evening Sustainability Commissioners,
Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments tonight.
I would like to give a brief update on San Diego Community Power (SDCP).
SDCP Board Meeting documents are available at: sdcommunitypower.org. San Diego Community Power will roll
out beginning in 2021 as the 2nd largest CCA, based on size and influence, in the State of California. As of last
month, all SDCP filings had been submitted to the California Public Utilities Commission. The Preliminary Energy
Portfolio Recommendations for 2021 include a default of 50% renewable energy for customers, with an optional
choice available for 100% renewable or greenhouse gas (GHG) free energy. SD Community Power expects to be
at least 60% GHG-free by 2024. (SDCP May 28, 2020 Board Presentation, sdcommunitypower.org) The CEO
search committee has selected 7 candidates to move forward to in-person meetings on June 16th. The top two or
three candidates will proceed to interviews with San Diego Community Power board members later in June.
The new Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Members from Chula Vista are Edward Lopez (Executive
Director of UCAN) and myself. I look forward to keeping in touch and representing Chula Vista residents as we
move toward 100% Clean Energy by 2035.
Respectfully, Carolyn Scofield

Hello,
My name is Carolina Rodriguez, I live in District 2 of Chula Vista and am Co-Founder/Leader of community
climate group South Bay Eco Justice. This project not only aids in meeting our Climate Action Plan goals to lower
our emissions but provides a safe and healthy recreational space for residents and families as we continue to
navigate this pandemic. Additionally, if this route is done through Third Avenue it would substantially bolster the
local businesses who have been ravaged by the stay-at-home orders, economic uncertainty and continuing social
distancing mandates. It's a tremendous opportunity to be creative and innovative as a city and community. Many
residents are increasingly utilizing the side walks to ride their bikes, walk, skate, etc.. This could be strategically
planned and the sidewalks can be extended for dining and help ease the stress of businesses to adapt whilst the
middle street could be exclusively for biking, walking and other forms of pedestrian access. Please consider and
support this effort.
