Hi Kerry,
I was forwarded the comment below from the Office of Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez. It’s for
item 16 tomorrow. Please include it on the record. Thanks! -Tony
As the Assemblywoman for the 80th District, last year I worked with the City of Chula Vista, MTS, and
other stakeholders on language for a narrow exemption to the Surplus Land Act in SB 9 (Durazo) to
ensure certain in-progress housing development proposals could continue to proceed. The impacted
proposals by the City of Chula Vista and MTS will create good local jobs, produce affordable housing,
and help the region meet our climate goals as transit-oriented developments. While SB 9 did not
ultimately pass simply because we ran out of time on the last night of session to take a vote, in the
upcoming legislative session I am committed to pursuing this exemption again to ensure the
proposals can proceed.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.
Laurel Brodzinsky
Legislative Director
Office of Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez
