And as with other Chula Vistans, I am proud of my Email community and the effort we've all put forward to create a quality of life for our children and generations to come. I feel that all of those who've taken the time to comment (`for' or 'against') on Agenda Item #2 have the very same goal. We all want to feel safe where we live. And when that safety and the safety of our children is threatened, we all want to be assured that we're protected from that threat. If we defund or abolish our police force, then who would we call in the time of need? Since the early 1800s, a publicly-funded 'police' force has been a cornerstone to the principle of keeping our families and property safe. And, in that regard, our Chula Vista Police Department has done a fine job of doing just that. Our Police Department was the first in SD County to deploy the body-worn camera department- wide;they established an internationally-recognized program to address domestic violence and abuse; our Homeless Outreach Team gives support to the many who've been forgotten; all personnel have received 'de- escalation'training; and our department was the first to be trained on 'implicit bias'. I support Measure P as was voted 'for' by the citizens of Chula Vista. These vehicles are a part of the 'toolset' needed by our officers to continue to keep us safe. I support the purchase. But, I also support any effort to improve where needed. I support open, constructive and meaningful dialogue. Perhaps our Mayor and City Council will establish a platform for community input to the issues which have been raised in this forum concerning social injustice, human relations and law enforcement. Measure P was projected to raise $178M in sales tax funds. How might those funds be re-directed? 1
