Not the dozens of on-going attempts by PD to close illegal shops since council voted to invite commercial pot businesses to the city, not the cost of the city workers, PD, equipment, or investigators needed to respond. And, not the broken promise to voters in Measure A for more police and firefighters to serve THEM. PD will continue to go through the motions of trying to close illegal shops knowing they'll simply re-open, sometimes in the same building; trying to close the barn after Council let the horses out. Inviting pot businesses into the city in the first place is the genesis of this problem. Adding more of them is not the answer. Isn't it time to consider what is best for families, youth, public health and safety instead of competing with other cities for the most pot customers? The marijuana industry lies and promises as needed in exchange for allowing commercialization. Windfall taxes are never realized, but what is realized is greater public health problems, crime, traffic fatalities, drug addiction, societal impacts and increased youth use.
