HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2003-285RESOLUTION NO. 2003-285 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING BIDS AND AWARDING CONTRACT FOR THE "DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS, OXFORD STREET BETWEEN FIRST AVENUE AND SECOND AVENUE IN THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CA (DR-931)" PROJECT WHEREAS, on Wednesday, May 28, 2003 the Director of Engineering received the following eight sealed bids for the "Drainage Improvements, Oxford Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue in the City of Chula Vista, CA (DR-931)" project: CONTRACTOR 1. Jimenez Inc. DBA MJC Construction - Chula Vista, CA 2. Bert W. Salas - Santee, CA 3. Tri-Group Construction - Poway, CA 4. FilMex Inc. DBA Metropolitan Constrnction - Spring Valley, CA 5. Arrieta Construction - E1 Cajon, CA 6. Heftier Company, Inc. - National City, CA 7. Rutledge, Inc. - Lemon Grove, CA 8. Zondrios Corp. - San Diego, CA BID AMOUNT $129,320.00 $142,460.00 $157,870.00 $165,200.00 $168,377.60 $178,250.00 $194,995.00 $195,505.00 WHEREAS, the low bid from Jimenez Inc., DBA MJC Construction is below the engineer's estimate of $163,925 by $ 34,605 or approximately 21%; and WHEREAS, engineering staff checked all references provided by the contractor and their work has been satisfactory; and WHEREAS, staff has reviewed the low bid and is recommending awarding the contract to Jimenez Inc., DBA MJC Construction of Chula Vista, California. WHEREAS, bid documents set forth participation requirements per Federal Regulation for meeting the disadvantaged and women-owned business goals; and WHEREAS, staff has reviewed the bid documents submitted by the three (3) lowest bidders; and Resolution 2003-285 Page 2 WHEREAS, the prime contractor, Jimenez Inc., DBA MJC Construction represents a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) contractor, that in itself satisfies the MBE requirements; and WHEREAS, the Environmental Review Coordinator has reviewed the work involved in this project and has determined that the project is exempt under Section 15303, Class 3 (d) (New Construction) of the California Environmental Quality Act; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of City of Chula Vista does hereby accept the bids and award the contract for the "Drainage Improvements, Oxford Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue in the City of Chula Vista, CA (DR-931)" to Jimenez Inc., DBA MJC Construction, in the mount of $129,320. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Chula Vista is hereby authorized to execute said contract on behalf of the City of Chula Vista.
