HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-04-07 Item 4 - Resolution - Additional InformationRESOLUTION NO. __________ RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THIS CITY ON MARCH 3, 2020, DECLARING THE RESULTS THEREOF, AND OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW WHEREAS, a general municipal election was held and conducted in the City of Chula Vista, California, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, as required by law, for the purpose of electing two members of the City Council to represent Districts 3 and 4, each for a full term, commencing in December 2020, and for submitting one ballot measure (Measure E) to the electorate; and WHEREAS, the measure, as stated in the resolution placing it on the ballot, was: ; and WHEREAS, notice of said election was duly and regularly given in the time, form, and manner as provided by law; and in all respects the election was held and conducted, and the votes cast at the election received and canvassed, and the returns made and declared, in the time, form, and manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the holding of elections in charter cities; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 2019-196, adopted October 15, 2019, and Resolution No. 2019-231, adopted December 3, 2019, the election was consolidated with the statewide election, and the Registrar of Voters canvassed the returns of that election and has certified the results. The results are received and made a part hereof, attached as Exhibit 1. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, DECLARED, AND DETERMINED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, that: 1. The City of Chula Vista had 148,597 registered voters eligible to vote in the March 3, 2020 election. There were 122 voting precincts established in Chula Vista for the purpose of holding the election. MEASURE E Shall the measure to preserve the City’s ability to receive state infrastructure funding for public works projects by giving the City discretion to allow the use of project labor agreements for City public works, in a manner consistent with state laws and best practices, including provisions for taxpayer protections, transparency, and accountability in the contracting process, by repealing and replacing Chapter 2.59 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code, be adopted? YES NO Resolution No. Page 2 2. The total number of votes received by each candidate is as follows: A. FOR MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 3 (four -year term) STEVE PADILLA 7,744 VOTES (54.77%) HENRY A. MARTINEZ II 4,404 VOTES (31.15%) DOUG WOLF 1,992 VOTES (14.09%) The City Council does hereby declare that, pursuant to Chula Vista Charter sections 300(E) and 300(A)(3), Steve Padilla and Henry A. Martinez II will be the candidates in a run-off election for member of the City Council representing District 3 on November 3, 2020. B. FOR MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 2 (four-year term) MIKE DIAZ 4,762 VOTES (45.41%) ANDREA CARDENAS 4,225 VOTES (40.29%) DELFINA GONZALEZ 1,499 VOTES (14.30%) The City Council does hereby declare that, pursuant to Chula Vista Charter sections 300(E) and 300(A)(3), Mike Diaz and Andrea Cardenas will be the candidates in a run- off election for member of the City Council representing District 4 on November 3, 2020. 3. The total number of votes received for the measure is as follows: FOR AGAINST MEASURE E 37,462 VOTES (67.56%) 17,990 VOTES (32.44%) The City Council does hereby declare that a majority of voters who voted on Measure E voted in favor of it, and that the measure was carried, and shall be deemed adopted and ratified. 4. The number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes given in the City to the candidates named above for the offices for which they were candidates, and for and against Measure E, are listed in Exhibit 1, attached to this Resolution and incorporated by this reference. 5. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista a statement of the results of the election, showing: (1) The whole number of votes cast in the City; (2) The names of the persons voted for; (3) The measure voted upon; (4) For what office each person was voted for; (5) The number of votes given at each precinct to Resolution No. Page 3 each person, and for and against the measure; (6) The total number of votes given to each person, and for and against the measure. 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions. Presented by Approved as to form by Kerry K. Bigelow, MMC Glen R.
