ROLL CALL
Councilmen present: Mayor Cox, Councilmembers Scott, Gillow, Campbell
Councilmen absent: Councilwoman McCandliss
Staff present: City Manager Cole, Development Services Administrator Robens
REPORT: SOUTHWOOD MENTAL HEALTH CENTER APPLICATION
City Manager Cole distributed copies of a draft of a letter to be sent to the office of
State-wide Health Planning and Development. He said he spoke with the Director of Public
Safety, Chief Winters, regarding the transaction. The City Manager discussed the project's
uniqueness noting its assistance in creating greater awareness and education of mental health
issues for the citizens. The occupancy rate of the Center is 96% with a long waiting list.
Mr. Cole added that in speaking with the Public Relations Director of the facility, Ms. Grace
Connolly, she indicated that 30% of the patients at Southwood are from the South Bay area;
therefore, it would be his recommendation that the City Council support this type of health
service.
MSUC (Scott/Cox) to recommend that the City suoport the application for the
Southwood Mental Health Center Project.
Councilman Scott remarked that the draft letter prepared and distributed today is too generalized
and should contain more statistical information.
City Manager Cole reminded Councilmembers that the Council's tour on Saturday, April 17,
will be about 5 or 6 hours in length. Development Services Administrator Robens commented
that the tour will begin in the North County, proceed through the City of San Diego, and
will end in the South Bay area around noon time and no later than 2:00 P.M.
ADJOURNMENT at 4:53 P.M. to the Council Tour on Saturday, April 17, 1982, and the regular
meeting of Tuesday, April 20, 1982 at 7:00 P.M.
