RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL TO
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OF
FOUR APPLICATIONS FOR THE "SAFE ROUTES TO
SCHOOL" PROGRAM GRANTS FOR FISCAL YEAR
2003/2004
WHEREAS, the Safe Ronte to School (SR2S) Program is a new federal program that
resulted from the passage and signing of Assembly Bill (AB)1475; and
WHEREAS, AB 1475 calls for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans)
to establish and administer a Safe Route to School Program and to "use federal transportation
funds for construction of bicycle and pedestrian safety and traffic calming projects"; and
WHEREAS, current regulation requires that official applications be submitted in order
for projects to be considered for funding; and
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista has submitted four applications to CalTrans for the
Safe Routes to School Program; and
WHEREAS, projects are chosen and then approved for funding after the applications
have been evaluated and assigned a priority by CalTrans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Chula Vista
does hereby approve the submittal to CalTrans of the following four applications for the Federal
Fiscal Year 2003/2004 Safe Routes to School Program:

Traffic Signal Installation at the Intersection of Second Avenue and Quintard
Street in the Vicinity of Castle Park Middle School. This proposed fully-actuated
(8 phase) signal is ranked number 4 on the "2002 Intersection Evaluation
List-Traffic Signal Warrant."
P~ect2
Installation of Missing Public/Safety Improvements in the Vicinity of Lauderbach
Elementary School. This involves the construction of missing street/sidewalk
improvements within the quarter-mile radius area from the elementary school
grounds.
P~ect3
Installation of Missing Public/Safety Improvements in the Vicinity of Rosebank
Elementary School. This involves the construction of missing street/sidewalk
improvements within the quarter-mile radius area from the elementary school
grounds.
Project 4
Installation of Missing Public/Safety Improvements in the Vicinity of Hathorside
Elementary School. This involves the construction of missing street/sidewalk
improvements within the quarter-mile radius area from the elementary school
grounds.
