To Whom It May Concern,
We are senior citizens who attend exercise and fitness class at The Norman Park
Senior Center. These classes provide us with the opportunity to maintain our
overall well being by losing weight, increasing energy and strengthening our whole
body through exercise. It also provides fellowship. The classes are held daily from
8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. Monday thru Thursday and on Friday 8:00 a.m.- 9:30 a.m. A
parking lot is available on site, which is convenient and also helpful for those with a
disability. Although many seniors have handicap placards, many seniors do not and
run the risk of being cited if they pass the two hours allowed on parking meters.
Such was the case for several of us senior citizens, while we understand we must
abide by the rules, we believe this is one rule that needs to be changed. We cannot
comfortably attend class without having to remember to walk out before the class
has ended to go and check the meter. This defeats the purpose of trying to maintain
good health. This does not only affect senior citizens who, have been ticketed, but all
other seniors participating in classes at the Norman Park Center. We believe these
meters should be removed. Seniors should be exempted from these meters during
the hours of 8:OOa.m. - 5:00 p.m. A special sticker could be assigned to seniors
attending programs at The Norman Park Senior Center, which would allow us to
park without worrying about a parking meter.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
