July 21, 2019 Dear Mayor Casillas Salas and City Council, Thank you for your ongoing and important leadership role in addressing the climate crisis in Chula Vista, especially moving our city forward to a 100% clean energy future. South Bay Eco Justice on Tap! urges you to vote YES to accept the Feasibility Study of Community Choice Aggregation at the City Council meeting on July 23, 2019. As a part of SanDiego350, South Bay Eco Justice on Tap! strongly believes in a just transition to renewable energy sources of solar, wind and geothermal. In our monthly meetings on Third Avenue in Chula Vista, we strive to create a future that supports a livable planet and just society through education and outreach, public policy advocacy, and mobilizing people to take action. The 2017 Chula Vista Climate Action Plan commits to 100% Clean Energy by 2035, and the necessary beginning steps to achieving that goal have been taken. The Sustainability Commission has heard the Feasibility Study Report and has accepted the Study. The Feasibility Study findings detail the economic and environmental benefits that Chula Vista residents and businesses will have with CCA electricity procurement. The Study also analyzes possible risks. Finally, the options for program structure, or governance, are outlined in the study. The Feasibility Study contains the relevant information that we need to design an energy procurement program in Chula Vista that meets our Climate Action Plan goal of 100% Clean Energy by 2035. We look forward to continuing to partner with you in creating a stronger, more resilient clean energy future in Chula Vista. Sincerely, Rita Clement District 1, Chula Vista, Ca 91914 South Bay Eco Justice on Tap!
